All WVU students in arts-related fields:
This is your time to be creative and shine, and get some funding and recognition for your entrepreneurial ideas. Put your thinking hats on, put together a 3-minute video of you talking about it OR tape your "Pecha Kucha" presentation, with the pitch for your arts entrepreneurship venture, and send it out to apply for this contest hosted by WVU Launch Lab awarding funding specifically for the arts.
"Pecha Kucha", for those not familiar with it, is a presentation format, where about 20 chosen images related to the proposed venture are shown one after the other, while the verbal pitch about the venture is delivered over those visuals. "Pecha Kucha" means "chit-chat" in Japanese.
*Deadline to apply and submit the video: 4-14-21
*Review and judging of the videos: 4-20-21 and 4-21-21
*Finalists' live pitch for the judges: 4-22-21

Welcome to Arts Entrepreneurship Studio at WVU College of Creative Arts and our page! Here, we will share educational information related to arts entrepreneurship, as well as news, ideas, inspiration, opportunities and developments in the field.
Today, artists all around the world are involved in entrepreneurial endeavors as part of what they do and how they make a living as artists, giving them the flexibility and independence that many of them need. In the United States, according to the National Endowment for the Arts, 34% of professional artists are self-employed and run their own arts ventures. Just like non-arts entrepreneurs, artists’ output, drive and focus may be about social change, or about commercial gains, or about the community, or about their own personal expression and success, or about all of the above. The fitting business structure, model, strategies and practices they might employ in their arts venture depends on those aims and priorities, and nowadays they have a number of choices in that area. Until just two-three decades ago, there were only two primary professional ways forward for artists — the commercial arts or the non-profit arts sector. Today, artists have many more choices and options, including a number of various entrepreneurial paths for their arts-based endeavors and ventures. And thus, the parameters and scope of what an artist is, why they do their work, where and how they engage with the public, etc., are greatly expanded today.
Let’s dig into and explore that world together here and get empowered with knowledge and understanding needed to thrive as an entrepreneurial artists today…
