Racial Justice STEAM Collective Youth Summit
Join us on March 16th and March 30th at the Science Museum of Minnesota for the first Racial Justice STEAM Collective Youth Summit at the Science Museum of Minnesota! This program, centered on empowering BIPOC youth (ages 15-18), will uplift underrepresented narratives and explore the experiences of STEM professionals through the lens of race and culture. Over the course of two Saturdays, we will explore the intersections between race and health, engineering, environmental justice, and technology.
On March 16th we will explore the intersections of Race and Engineering with partners from the Toaster Innovation Hub at the University of Minnesota. Then we’ll dig into Race and Environmental Justice with social justice advocate and teaching artist Eshay Brantley.
On March 30th we’ll take a look at the intersections of Race and Data with Shayna Karuman and Marika Pfefferkorn, supported with a zine from Sophie Wang, a co-founder of Free Radicals and an equity-centered professional development professional. Then we’ll check out the intersection of Race and Healthcare with a variety of BIPOC healthcare professionals and circle keepers.
Each event will take place from 10am-4pm and will have breakfast and lunch provided by the Racial Justice STEAM Collective, as well as a $100 gift card for youth participants and some giveaways and swag! The experience is limited to 30 youth per day, so be sure to sign up early.
