This is Jeff (I usually attend the 4pm class (with my 4 year old Blake). My wife recently gave birth to our 2nd son Cole. We are looking for a nanny to help us out. We need p/t help in the summer and f/t help starting in September.

Starting in September hours: mon-fri 7am-2pm

We only need help looking after our newborn who is now 3 months old.

This past week marked the 10 year anniversary of opening our doors at CrossFit Garden City. Fittingly, we "celebrated" the occasion with a 10k run that started at our original home (42 Nassau Blvd), headed across town to CFGC version 2.0 (585 Commercial Ave) and ended at our current digs (180 East Second Street). ⁣

Every step of the run seemed to bring along with it another recollection, memory or emotion from the past 10 years, of which there are too many to count. What a journey it has been!⁣

Of all the thoughts that came to mind the one that kept resurfacing was how surprisingly good I felt on the run and how easy it felt, despite not having run more than a couple miles in one clip in quite some time (as in years). It was as if I was being carried along, supported and encouraged by everyone else that was running that day, or more broadly, that had "run" with us as part of our community over the years. ⁣

And it just seemed to be the perfect metaphor for having this community by my side for the past decade, encouraging and supporting me through both good and bad times and the many ups and downs of life. Being part of CFGC has enriched my life in so many ways and made the good times THAT much better and the bad times MUCH easier to bear. ⁣

We opened our doors 10 years ago with the hope of having a positive impact on people's lives. We had no idea how much positive impact those people would have on us in return and how many incredible friends we would make in the process. THANK YOU to EVERYONE that has EVER stepped foot in our doors.

We figured there is no better way to celebrate and honor a decade of fitness than hitting the pavement for a 10k Run on Sunday, November 22nd at 9 am. As a special ode to our history, the run starts at 42 Nassau Blvd (our original home), continues to 585 Commercial Ave (CFGC version 2.0), and then we will turn around at 585 and head north, ending up at our current location: 180 East Second Street.

Those of you that know me know that I am not easily excited. But, I can honestly say that I am experiencing this ever-elusive emotion by committing today to join the Kresser Institute's Adapt Health Coach Training Program.⁣

It has come to light recently that a paltry 12% of our country is considered metabolically healthy. Poor health, sickness, anxiety, depression and chronic disease are rampant and affect the overwhelming majority of our population. Surely, if you are not experiencing one of these conditions yourself, you likely know many people who are, and sadly, we are trending in the wrong direction. ⁣

My personal mission for the second half of my life is to do whatever is in my power to help reverse this trend, further the mission to eradicate chronic disease and contribute to changing the future of health so that my children and yours can live in a happier, healthier world. ⁣

Let me start by apologizing on behalf of the entire health and fitness industry. We have failed you…miserably. We have somehow led you to believe that achieving your health and fitness goals is “easy”, and only requires “a few minutes a day” and that you can “eat all of your favorite foods and still effortlessly lose weight.” These are just a few of the dozens of face-palm worthy claims I’ve heard over the years.⁣

But, if you are not part of the solution, then you are part of the problem; so, let me start by saying that you are being lied to:⁣

• Achieving health and fitness is not easy, it’s hard and requires discipline and discomfort.⁣
• It requires more than a few minutes a day. It’s actually a 24-hour, 7 day a week commitment.⁣
• You cannot eat all of your favorite foods and effortlessly lose weight. Most, if not all, of your favorite foods are contributing very specifically towards preventing you from losing bodyfat and achieving health.⁣
• And this list can go on and on and on…⁣

The "O.O.G's"⁣

We've had thousands of people pass through our doors over the past 10 years. Some we knew for an hour and we never heard from them again. Others gave us a shot for a few weeks or months and then moved onto something else. There are many that we knew or have known for years. Some have left, come back, left again, come back again, and everything in between. We can only hope that we made some type of positive impact on each and everyone of their lives, however big or small. ⁣

And then there are a handful that have been with us since the VERY beginning. The "Original" Original Gangstas. Thank you for placing your trust in us back before anyone knew who we were, what CrossFit was and whether we had any idea what we were actually doing. YOUR impact on US and on our community is felt and appreciated every single day.⁣

Humble beginnings!⁣⁣
This is our first gym ("42 Nassau"), the night before opening our doors for business. I vividly remember taking this picture and feeling an immense sense of pride for following and realizing a dream, overwhelming excitement for all of the possibilities and absolute terror for entering completely unknown territory. We really had little idea what we were doing but we had a clear purpose - share our love of health and fitness with as many people as possible. It is here that we built the foundation of our incredible community that has allowed us to continue to attract so many wonderful people into our lives. ⁣⁣
We have been far from perfect. We have made countless mistakes these past 10 years and faced seemingly insurmountable obstacles (a global pandemic comes to mind). What has allowed us to stay the course and overcome these obstacles has always been reminding ourselves of the core values our community is founded upon - Service, Excellence, Care, Passion and Happiness - and moving these values further into the world and touching as many lives as possible. ⁣⁣
Never lose sight of where you began and why you started your journey in the first place!⁣⁣

Practice a few cycles every hour, or any time you're feeling stressed/anxious, when you lie down in bed to go to sleep, or at any other time of day. Gradually build up to performing longer and longer cycles, but start with one... right NOW!⁣
