Some great suggestions from our partner organization Ecological Landscape Alliance on Earth Day!
Wildlife corridors are critical for enabling animals to move across the landscape. But how do we know where are the most important places for corridors to be preserved? And how can we design effective corridors that will help native species survive and thrive? Dr. Annika Keeley, Senior Conservation Scientist at the Center for Large Landscape Conservation, discusses the many factors to consider when creating or conserving corridors.

Alum Boris Kerzner shared his experience with bokashi composting in a blog post for our partner organization, Ecological Landscape Alliance. The process involves starving kitchen scraps of oxygen, and then sprinkling them with bacteria-and-yeast-inoculated bran, which acts as a fermentation agent. The scraps are incorporated into soil "by the cacophony of resident life."
Conway alum Heather McCargo, founder of Wild Seed Project, recently wrote a guest blog post about sowing native seeds for our partner organization Ecological Landscape Alliance. "For our landscapes to be resilient, it is important that native plants are propagated from seed whenever possible. If many people started sowing native seeds, we could rapidly increase the resiliency of our landscapes and support the genetic diversity of our native flora."
Ecological Landscape Alliance's annual conference is coming right up on Wednesday, February 23 and Friday, February 24. Check out the impressive lineup of speakers, which includes two Conway alums: Heather McCargo '84, founder of Wild Seed Project, and Conway faculty member and alum Kate Cholakis '11. Admissions Manager Roxy Finn will also be attending, so be sure to swing by Conway's virtual booth and say hello!
Our partner organization Ecological Landscape Alliance's 28th Conference & Eco-Marketplace is coming up next week! Two Conway alums will be speaking at the online conference: Heather McCargo '84, founder of Wild Seed Project, will present "Urban Pollinator Corridors: Creating Native Habitat to Support Pollinators and Other Wild Life," and Conway faculty member and alum Kate Cholakis '11 will co-present "Not in My Front Yard: Social-Aesthetic Barriers to Green Infrastructure in the Public Realm."
