Earlier this week, our school and our PTA were recognized at the School Board Meeting for achieving two outstanding awards. Spring Run Elementary was recognized as a Virginia Naturally School, and the PTA was recognized for its 2021-2023 PTA School of Excellence designation. Congratulations!

We are super lucky to have two of the best YMCA staff making our Huskies before and after school program super fun for our kids! Happy St Patrick’s Day!

Spring Run families, what says PTA better than a good old fashioned bake sale?

What can you do when your Board of Supervisors puts together a budget that is millions of dollars short of what is needed to fund our schools, pay our teachers, and keep our buses moving? Host a PTA bake sale to make up the difference!

If this sounds ridiculous to you, just wait until you see the budget. How about instead: consider emailing your Board of Supervisors representative Kevin Carroll and let him know how school funding impacts you, your family, and our county's future. [email protected]

03/17/2023

Happy St. Patrick's Day, Huskies! Let's see your green!

There is a myth that people in Chesterfield don’t care about school funding. The PTA is holding a “Rally for Kids” and “180 Million Dollar Bake Sale” on Wednesday, March 22nd at 5:30pm at 10001 Iron Bridge Road, Chesterfield, VA 23832 (outside of the Chesterfield County Public Meeting Room). All teachers, parents, and citizens who want to see our schools fully funded are encouraged to attend. This is the last Board of Supervisors meeting before they release their budget decisions for next year.

If you would like to speak at the Board of Supervisors’ meeting (same location), which begins at 6pm, you can register with the clerk by emailing [email protected] or calling 804-748-1200.

Attention Families!

The local budget for Chesterfield County Public Schools (CCPS) is being decided over the next few weeks by the County Board of Supervisors. Currently, Chesterfield County ranks 130 out of 132 school districts in Virginia for student spending. This means that 99% of school districts spend more per student. The Board of Supervisors has asked for feedback from citizens to determine if school funding levels should be increased (or decreased).

The Chesterfield County Council of Parent Teacher Associations has voted to support fully funding our schools by supporting the Superintendent's proposed needs-based budget and increasing school funding at or above the average level of funding in Virginia.

Our school is in the Matoaca Magisterial District and our Supervisor is Kevin Carroll.

If you support fully funding our schools please call and/or email Mr. Carroll on or before March 17th. It will only take a few minutes to send an email - our kids are worth it!

You can contact Mr. Carroll by calling 804-768-7400 and emailing [email protected]

If you would like to attend a Matoaca Magisterial District budget presentation to provide feedback in person there are two meetings. The first meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, March 14th at the CTC on Hull St. from 6:30pm-8:30pm (13900 Hull Street Road). The second meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, March 21st at the New Matoaca Elementary School from 6:30pm-8:30pm (20300 Halloway Avenue).

Happy Holi to any Huskies who celebrate!

We wish all who celebrate a joyful Holi.

Holi, the Hindu Festival of Colors, celebrates the arrival of spring. It also represents the triumph of good over evil, as well as a day to celebrate love, happiness, and a good harvest. Holi is a vibrant celebration that involves dancing, singing, and the playful throwing of colored powders and water. In 2023, Holi begins on March 7 and ends March 8.

Food and Nutrition Services is excited to kick off National School Breakfast Week (NSBW) throughout Chesterfield County Public Schools. This week-long national campaign, “Dig In To School Breakfast”, highlights the benefits of school meals. Every day students can “construct” a healthy meal that will serve as a solid “foundation” for “towering” achievements at school and in life.

Daily school breakfast offers an entree, fruit, and milk which helps to fuel the body and give it energy for the day ahead. School breakfast can boost attention, concentration and memory, all of which helps our students in and out of the classroom.

RAFFLES! Students who eat school breakfast during NSBW will be entered into a drawing to win a prize. Two winners per school. Drawing is on Friday, March 10.

Elementary students will have the opportunity to win The Super Crew’s Breakfast Cookbook for Kids: 50 Tasty Recipes + 100 Fun Nutrition Activities by Melissa Halas.

Congratulations to our Volunteer of the Month, Charlotte Lands!

Charlotte has proven to be a reliable volunteer every time we have made a request. She has helped out multiple times with Recess Coverage and helped multiple days in the Holiday Shop. She is a lead room parent, and thus plans class parties and activities too. She has helped out during our large events, even offering coverage of the spirit wear table during the Winter Dance. She has recently volunteered to be on our Nominating Committee. One thing that is really amazing about this volunteer is that she isn’t even a parent. She is a grandparent to students here at Spring Run.

Thank you, Charlotte, for all of your help! Our PTA wouldn't function without willing volunteers like you! Charlotte received a $15 gift card to Amazon, and will get to use the Volunteer of the Month parking spot until our next meeting on March 21. Thank you!
