It's MEET THE TEAM FRIDAY!!!

This Friday, we bring you another one of our amazing Professional Enablers Barbie Vest! She has been with Quilter's Corner for over two years now and just loves to help our Quilting Family pick out the perfect accents, backgrounds, backing, and binding (oh my!) for their latest masterpieces!

Barbie resides in North Chesterfield with her husband of 49 years Gary. Their constant companion is their four legged child, a 10 year old rescue pup named Mo. They have two grown sons and a daughter, as well as one grandson and three granddaughters. . . . all on the West Coast!

Barbie and Gary were high school sweethearts. They married young, Gary joined the Air Force, and they spent four years in Spain during Gary's service. They returned home to Virginia and have been here ever since. Barbie worked for many years underwriting insurance policies in the commercial insurance industry and later did administrative work in a medical office.
Barbie learned to sew as a teenager in Home Economics classes at school. She has been garment sewing ever since. About 10 years ago, she started quilting when her Grands were coming to visit and she wanted to have a quilt on the bed for them. She really dived into quilting and embroidery about 5 years ago when she retired and had more time to devote to the crafts. She swears these addictions are all her sister's fault!

Two years ago she began entering her quilts in the County Fair and won a slew of blue ribbons. Last year she entered Flowerdance, the quilt she is pictured with, in the County Fair where it took Best in Show. Flowerdance went on to take 3rd Place in the State Fair . . . . personally, we think she was robbed! Just look at that quilt! It is a masterpiece!

Barbie also loves to crochet, cross-stitch and cook. She and her husband have traveled extensively around the world. Her favorite method of traveling is cruising! She and her husband are also very active in their Church. Barbie even sings Alto in the choir.

Favorite Machine: Brother Luminaire Sewing & Embroidery Machine
Favorite Colorway: Blue
Favorite Type of Quilt: Traditional
Current Projects: Sugar Twist in blue and green batiks, Moondance (which she admits is outside of her traditional comfort zone, but she still finds it very intriguing!), and a Shop Hop quilt that she is finishing up the binding on.

Whew! Barbie is a busy woman! So busy, that she isn't on social media, but we'll be sure to share your question and comments with her!

It's MEET THE TEAM FRIDAY!!!

Today we bring you the one, the only, the incomparable Angie Smith! Also known as The ScanNCut Queen!

Angie is our jack of all trades, and master of all . . . . just don't ask her to arrange fabric, wrap jelly rolls, or build fat quarter towers!
Angie has been with Quilter's Corner for 11 years now. If you've bought a sewing machine from Quilter's Corner, you've probably met Angie. The same goes for ScanNCut classes, bag classes, and quite a few Block of the Month classes.

Angie lives in Short Pump with her husband of 34 years Henry. They have two grown daughters, one of whom is getting married this year! The also have an adorable Pembroke Welsh Corgi named Banner and sweet rescue black cat named Josie.

Angie used to work for NCDOT as a highway engineer. She worked on environmental impact studies for new road projects and to this day she still cannot understand why the Red Cockaded Woodpecker is on the endangered species list when it showed up at Every. Project. Site.

When she was a child, Angie's grandmother used to give her double knit polyester scraps to sew together . . . . anybody remember that fabric? She took a hand quilting class when she lived in North Carolina and she got hooked on calico fabrics!

Angie loves the beach, listens to classical music in her sewing room, enjoys taking The Great Courses with her Mom, and dabbles in painting and 3D wool embroidery.

Favorite Machine: Brother Luminaire Sewing & Embroidery Machine
Favorite Toy: Brother ScanNCut
Favorite Colorway: Blue
Favorite Type of Quilt: Collage & Quilts with a lot of variety
Current Projects: Prism (a BOM that starts in March), leather bags, a collage quilt, and a wedding quilt.

This is a picture of Angie standing beside a collage quilt she made of her eldest daughter as a child. We keep telling her that she just has to enter this in a show! It would win top honors for sure! Oh, as she was showing us this quilt, she told us it took FOREVER to finish. When pressed for specifics on when she started it and when she finished it, she finally admitted that she started it in 2017 and finished it in 2018 . . . .we only wish we finished everything that quickly!

02/23/2023

It’s WHAT’S UNDER YOUR NEEDLE WEDNESDAY!!!

We had the privilege of finishing this stunning quilt for a very talented member of our quilting family!

Amy Z. entrusted her beautiful quilt to us and we had a blast working on it! It sure got a lot of attention from Team members, and our quilting family alike, when they saw it on the longarm machine.

The pattern is Over and Down Under. It is available at the shop, as well as the gorgeous quilting flannels used in the making of this beauty! Stop on by to pick up your copy, or to let us help you plan your next project!

And, be sure to post a pic in the comments below of what you are working on right now!

It's MEET THE TEAM FRIDAY!!!

Today we introduce you to another one of our Behind the Scenes Queens, Virginia Willcox!

Virginia IS our Receiving Department at the Shop. All of the beautiful things you see in the store from the fabric, to the patterns, to the notions and more have to go through her. She gets to see everything first . . . . . we don't know about you, but we'd go broke if all of that stuff had to pass through our hands first! We're not sure how she resists bringing it all home with her! While she spends most of her time in the back office working her magic checking everything in, you can occasionally find her helping out on the floor. Getting to work with our Quilting Family is a nice change of pace from her work in the back office.

Virginia isn't from Virginia, but she got here as fast as she could! She is still a hard no on sweet tea, but we have caught her saying "all y'all" from time to time! She resides in Chester with her husband of 36 years Jim and their lovable pitbull dog Jack. They have two grown sons. One of them lives practically next door while the other lives in South Korea! Talk about extremes! They are also blessed with a granddaughter and a grandson.

Many of us live vicariously through Virginia's love of travel as she very generously sends us pictures of her latest adventures. She is looking forward to an upcoming trip to the United Kingdom . . . and we are looking forward to the pictures!

Virginia has been sewing about as long as she can remember. Her mother and grandmother taught her garment sewing as a child, and she never stopped sewing. Seven years ago, she took a quilting class and found a new addiction! The addition of an embroidery machine added to her list of talents!

Favorite Machine: Brother Luminaire Sewing & Embroidery Machine
Favorite Colorway: Blue
Favorite Type of Quilt: Scrappy & Appliqué
Current Projects: Quilted Sleeping bags for the Grands, a blouse, and a store sample called Bouncing Borders.

Here is a pic of Virginia at her desk with some of the latest fabric arrivals. Be sure to say "Hi!" to Virginia the next time you see her in the Shop!

MEET THE TEAM FRIDAY IS BAAAAACK!!!
This week we introduce you to the tall, dark, and handsome Guiding Eyes for the Blind Trooper!

Trooper was born in Patterson, New York on September 2, 2021 to parents Emery and Ogden. He had 7 brothers and sisters named Thunder, Treasure, Tripp, Travis, Truman, Trish, and Twyla. At 8 weeks of age, Trooper was tested, matched with a local Puppy Raiser, and then placed in a van for the long ride down to Richmond, Virginia.

Trooper has been diligently working in the Longarm Department at Quilter's Corner since October 2021. He has learned the fine art of sit, stay, come, place, heel, and the importance of polite people greetings among other things.

Trooper is being raised to be a guide dog for Guiding Eyes for the Blind. He is a 17 month old, male, black & tan German Shepherd. He loves coming in to work each day. His day usually starts with greeting all of the Team and then chasing a tennis ball around the shop before we open up in the morning. After that, he hangs out in the longarm department happily greeting our customers and inspecting each quilt as it comes off of the longarm machines. Trooper is a big favorite with all of the delivery people who actually look forward to delivering our goods so they can stop and pet him.

He has been very helpful the last couple of months teaching Guiding Eyes for the Blind Paul how to settle in to being a shop dog.

Trooper will be going off to college at the beginning of March when he returns to Guiding Eyes for the Blind in New York for his formal training. He has been given strict instructions to study hard and keep the partying to a minimum! If all goes well, he could become a guide dog in about 6 months and be matched with a blind or visually impaired person.

Favorite machine: Whichever one Mom is working on. He loves to lay down on the foot pedal and scare the bejeezus out of her when the machine goes VROOOMMM! all by itself!
Favorite Colorway: Guiding Eyes for the Blind Blue . . . .which also happens to be the same color as Brother Blue!
Favorite Quilt Project: Whichever one Mom has laid on the floor to check the block placement . . . .it's like she laid it there for him to lay on. She did, didn't she???
Current Project: Teaching Paul not to hog all of the toys!
Goal: To become The Best Guide Dog!

Stop on by the shop soon to say goodbye to Trooper and wish him well on his journey!

We are loving the new Luminaire 3 as we stitch out the new projects! The scanning feature helped us align these quilting...
