Asteroid 3569 is named "Kumon" in honor of Toru Kumon. The asteroid was discovered in 1938 by Karl Reinmuth, a German astronomer who discover 395 minor planets. It was later named by Syuichi Nakano, an astronomer whose stay at the Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory was partially supported by Kumon.
