Last Friday's professional development day, led by Stephanie McReynolds, was a transformative experience for our teachers. Stephanie emphasized the crucial role of the guide through engaging object lessons, using a Mobius strip and playdough to illustrate the dynamic link between the guide, the environment, and the child. The session also focused on teamwork, including a memorable activity where school wrapped their teams in toilet paper and had a friendly tower-building contest, emphasizing the importance of collaboration in creating a supportive environment. Stephanie's guidance, coupled with engaging activities, provided an inspiring and effective approach to encourage our educators to consistently strive for in their profession.

The Knobless Cylinders consist of four sets of 10 colored cylinders each. The Yellow Cylinders, part of the second set, decrease in both diameter and height within the box. As engage with these materials, they are exposed to language rich experiences that introduce concepts like short, shorter, shortest, and thin, thinner, thinnest. Constructing a tall tower hinges on correctly ordering the diameters, demanding concentration and a bit of experimentation from the children. The intentional choice of a uniform color for all cylinders in each box ensures that the child focuses solely on the specified dimensions, eliminating potential distractions.

: We're closing out the month of January with one last tip for supporting your child's independence at home - kitchen accessibility.

Make your kitchen child-friendly by finding a low shelf or drawer for cups, placemats, and utensils. Opt for glass cups and inexpensive ceramic plates that can withstand occasional accidents. Involve your child in setting the table, using a bigger step stool or a learning tower for counter-height activities. Encourage self-feeding, mirroring the practices in Montessori classrooms.

National Reading Day was highlighted at Montessori Academy Eagle as primary students showed off their reading skills to our upper Elementary students.

- This month, we are discussing practical ideas to support your child's blossoming independence at home. First up - Designated Storage Spaces!

Set up simple storage spots near the front door for your child's belongings. A small rug or a basket for shoes, along with hooks for jackets, encourages independent entries and exits, reducing potential meltdowns. Adding a small stool facilitates easy access.
