City University prepares its scholars to attend the college or university of their choice. Such preparation includes providing opportunities and resources that afford our scholars access to a better future. On Thursday, March 7, sophomore scholars visited the campus of the University of Tennessee at Martin.

During the visit, scholars learned about academic programs, financial aid, scholarships, housing, student life and participated in a walking tour. After the campus tour, scholars had the opportunity to participate in leadership activities and speak with tour guides and students who are enrolled in the university.

At City University, college preparation begins when scholars arrive on campus. In addition to our rigorous college preparatory curriculum, we take it a step further by encouraging our scholars to research careers. In an effort to achieve this goal, City University held its annual Rep Yo Career Fair on Friday, March 8. Senior scholars researched and presented information about their chosen careers to our scholars, faculty, and staff.

Our Scholar Alumni have been returning to campus for our 20/20 Vision Scholar Alumni Speaker Series to share their reflections on life beyond City University with our junior and senior scholars. Beginning in September 2023, our speakers have been Danielle Cashaw, ‘12; Hamilton Green, ’14; Donavann Brooks, ’10; Aria Battle, ’21; Zakirah Fields, ’20; Zariyah Fields, ’20; Whitney Houston, ’22; Bryan Vincent Redmond, ’14; Michelle Johnson, ’11.

The Scholar-Alumni Speaker Series is designed to enrich the lives of our City University community by exposing our scholars to scholar-alumni who share insights into their journey beyond City University, advice and lessons learned in life. Ultimately, the Scholar-Alumni Speaker Series provides scholars with opportunities to learn, grow and connect.

Community service is an essential component of City University Schools, as all scholars are expected to make a creative and positive difference in a variety of communities in need. Due to such, City University Scholars must earn community service hours, as it serves as a promotion/graduation requirement. Through a partnership with The Links, Incorporated Memphis (TN) Chapter scholars were afforded a community service opportunity, through the It’s a Girl’s Life program. On Saturday, December 2, Girls Prep Scholars helped pack hygiene kits for girls throughout the Memphis Shelby County School District.
