Former Timberwolf Sarah Juarez Wins 4th Annual Bishop's Christmas Card Art Contest

In October, Bishop David P. Talley and Bishop Emeritus J. Terry Steib surprised St. Agnes Academy junior Sarah Juarez, a former Timberwolf, with the news that her artwork was chosen as the winner of the 4th Annual Bishops’ Christmas Card Art Contest for the Catholic Diocese of Memphis. Sarah’s Nativity scene, created for the contest last fall, was selected from 71 submissions to be featured on the Bishops’ 2024 Christmas card, which is sent to over 1,000 people worldwide.
Sarah's watercolor artwork depicts a serene, intimate moment of the Holy Family after the birth of Jesus, with Mary and Joseph in prayer over the baby Jesus in a humble setting. Sarah drew inspiration from her Catholic faith and various images of the Nativity, aiming to create a warm and peaceful scene that felt true to the biblical story.

One our own is Educator of the Week!!!

Miss Leavitt teaches eighth graders in the rise program for students with learning differences and is instrumental in helping her students blossom and grow in confidence as they learn the same material as the rest of the eighth grade classes, but it is taught and modified to learning different, student’s needs.

She has a unique ability to add just the right amount of encouragement and guidance to her students that allows them to expand their skills, build their self-esteem and self-worth through the dedication, hard work and self-accomplishment.

To be sure, like all of our amazing teachers across Memphis, she works long hours; comes in early, stays late and gives individual attention where it's needed, never asking anything in return. and working at a small Catholic school salaries are not what they are at a large public school. She does it out of love and dedication to ensure each child succeeds.

Eighth grade is such a pinnacle for young adult kids; 13, 14, 15 year-old teens, going through lots of emotions and feelings, hormones and changes, can be very challenging for teachers, yet Miss Janelle makes her class fun with her lively spirit and big smile it is a synergistic experience in her classroom.

I nominate her for educator of the week because she silently perform mini miracles each day, encouraging growing minds to reach for better and try harder... to believe they can become whatever they want, with the effort needed. I say "well done Miss Jenelle, I nominate you for educator of the week". thanks so much for being an excellent teacher!!! Thank you, WREG for listening and making this possible

The auction winners of our SFA Best Bites Principal and Assistant Principal for the day are Lawson Corzine and Hadley Strausser. Today, they were put to work in their new positions. It was a full day with prayer and announcements, directing traffic for Mass, putting up a new bulletin board, leading a tornado drill, and reading to Mrs. Cassman's 4K library class. It was off to lunch at Huey's for a well-earned break. At dismissal, they both rewarded our students with a jeans day in January and announced the winners of our Faculty Ugly Sweater Contest.
Thank you for a great job, Hadley and Lawson!

Proud that SFA partners with groups like Catholic Charities of West Tennessee to help members of our community that are in need.

St. Francis of Assisi Catholic School celebrated the Feast of St. Nicholas in style with their annual Wear a Pair, Give a Pair Christmas PJ Drive! 🩳🎄Thanks to their generosity, 375 pairs of pajamas were collected to help those in need. Way to spread the holiday cheer! ✨ St. Francis of Assisi Catholic School
