First quarter grades have gone out in most schools by now. Many parents are very happy when their student gets an "A" on their report card. But is it possible that an "A" not really be a true "A"?
BEWARE PARENTS!
An acquaintance of mine recently posted how proud they were of their student making great grades in a Memphis elementary school. When, however, I looked up that school's academic achievement at the TN Department of Education website, I found that that school only had 14% of its students proficient in Language Arts and about 7% at grade level in Math.
Is an "A" worth the same in a school that itself is not achieving academic success? Not likely. The school's environment of excellence and achievement or lack of excellence and achievement affects each individual student.
One day there will be a reckoning. When those students sit to take college entrance or military entrance exams or even exams to get a high school diploma, they will not have the foundation to excel - despite the fact that they may have made "A"s on their report cards in elementary school.
At GMAA we take this seriously. Students who earn "A"s on their report cards also can prove that they know their "stuff" by being proficient and higher on state and national standardized tests!
This Week at Greater Memphis Adventist Academy. October 29, 2021. (Actually two weeks' worth of happiness and joy!)

A whole lot of pumpkins going on around GMAA these days. Agriculturist Tim Roberts brought little pumpkins for all. Just right for the season.
CAN PUMPKINS FLOAT? Watch this!
Agriculturist, TIM ROBERTS, is the Director of Education for the Agricenter International, the research, agribusiness, and educational hub of the Mid-South. He makes two visits a month to our school to give hands-on STEM lectures and projects. Our students love having him.
Send a prayer for our school as we have week of prayer!
This Week At GMAA October 15, 2021. The First Field Trip of the School Year; Mr. Roberts, agriculturist, visits again; students follow in the footsteps of G.W. Carver and invent with peanuts; 1st and 2nd graders use engineering and building skills to make a cardboard house.
This Week at GMAA. October 1, 2021. Enjoy!
There is always joy watching children create fun. To be at enough peace and safety to just play is a gift adults give to kids. We're so glad we have lots of these times at GMAA!
There's always something interesting going on at GMAA. Enjoy our weekly video and tell someone looking for this kind of school that enrollment for second quarter is going on now. Second quarter begins October 11, 2021.
Do you want to experience a "Just Plain Proud" moment? Then look at this video. Our talented 1st and 2nd graders under the direction of their super-talented teacher, Natalie St. Bernard, created this very, very important parable video and presented it in chapel today. They got a standing ovation. Listen and be blessed!

Welcome to our latest and newest teacher! Asianna Gaddy is our new Pre-Kindergarten/Kindergarten teacher. We're so excited to have her join our outstanding staff of enthusiastic Christian teachers. We are still enrolling new and transfer students
One of the great things about being principal at GMAA is the chance to welcome and celebrate our students for another school year! What a fine bunch of kids. They are getting a quality education in an Christian environment. A win-win for their bright future😄.
Our lower grade students are jumping for joy to be back in school at GMAA, safe, sound, and happy. There's still time to enroll for this school year. There are openings in our Pre-Kindergarten to Second grade classrooms. Call today.
Birthdays are always big events at GMAA. But when the birthday is on the first day of school and its a beloved teacher - well it's really special. Mrs. Cheryl Williams, 6-8 grade teacher celebrated her birthday at school by treating the students with a special luncheon. But Mrs. St. Bernard's students had a treat for her too.
We have so many wonderful supporters! Pastor Famous Murray and family have been classroom sponsors for the first and second grade class at GMAA for many years. Like clockwork Pastor Murray showed up today to bring the family's first gift to Mrs. St. Bernard, our new first and second grade teacher. THANK YOU MURRAY FAMILY!
We started school today for the 2021-2022 school year. What a happy bunch of students. We're planning to have a wonderful year. There's still time for us to enroll other students who want to receive an outstanding, quality education in a vibrant Christian environment.
One of our bright fourth-graders wrote this poetic plea. Hopefully, we will all pay attention and be safe this summer.
"They shall mount up with wings like eagles." Isaiah 40:31. WE DID IT. Our whole school art project is basically done. This work of art represents our belief that every student in our school can SOAR like the eagles. This beautiful project was conceived and installed by our Kindergarten teacher, Natalie St. Bernard. Every student helped cut, paint, and score each colorful feather. Come by for a visit and see it for yourself. Enroll your student at GMAA and watch them mount up like eagles.
Can you see it? Can you see it? Look closely. It's a red ladybug. Students at GMAA are always discovering new things to study! Help your child be an excellent Discover. Enroll them at GMAA for the next school term.
We love it when prospective parents come by to check us out. The Sanchez' and Hunters dropped in recently during Open House. You are welcome to call and make an appointment to see our school and talk with us about enrolling your student for the 2021-2022 school year. You will be very glad you did.
