The Colonial Acres Music Academy and All Saints Church in collaboration with the Episcopal Diocese of Tennessee is proud to offer a limitted number of scholarships for clarinet, trumpet, horn, trombone and tuba.
The scholarship will cover 2 semesters of lessons and opportunities for public performance. Selection of the recipients will be based on talent and need. Auditions will begin during the last two weeks of December and lessons will start in January. Applicants should be prepared to perform scales, standard repetoire, and/or All West solo. If you have any students interested, they should contact Adam Alter at [email protected]

Today, August 15th, in 1969, the Woodstock Festival was held in White Lake, New York on a 600 acre dairy farm. The three day festival revolutionized Rock and Roll and the music industry. Performing today would have been Grateful Dead, Creedence Clearwater Revival, The Who, and many other bands.

MEET THE INSTRUCTORS: Nancy Ditto
Originally from Memphis, Nancy Ditto has taught and performed throughout the United States, Canada, Mexico, Europe, and Asia. Nancy has been a member of the Memphis Symphony, Toledo Symphony, Saskatoon Symphony, Greenville [SC] Symphony, and Charlotte Symphony. She has also been a member of the orchestras of the New York City Opera National Company, Brooklyn Philharmonic, and of numerous Broadway shows in New York City where she worked as a free lancer for 14 years. She was on faculty at the Presbyterian College in Clinton, SC for 19 years where she taught both college and pre-college students. At present, she is teaching both at the Colonial Acres Music Academy and also at the Community Music School in Memphis and is accepting both college and pre-college students, including adults who would like to begin studying the violin, viola, and piano.Call us today and request Mrs. Ditto as your teacher!

MEET THE INSTRUCTORS: Adam Alter
Adam Alter is originally from Brooklyn New York. He has a BFA in clarinet performance from the University of Buffalo and a Masters in clarinet performance from the Brooklyn College Conservatory. His principle clarinet teachers include, Leon Russianoff and James Pyne. He also studied with Edward Yadzinsky and John Moses on clarinet and saxophone, as well as Dennis Smylie and James Ognibene on bass clarinet.

His performing experience includes bass clarinet positions with the Annapolis Symphony Orchestra, The Goldman Memorial Band and The New Sousa Band where he has recorded on the Delos label. As an orchestral musician he has performed under the baton of many notable conductors including Morton Gould, Leonard Smith, Ainsle Cox, Bob Black and Keith Brion. Mr. Alter has won several competitions and received favorable reviews from Jon Pareles of The New York Times and Tim Page who praised his Carnegie Recital Hall solo debut.

While living in South Carolina he performed on clarinet, bass clarinet and saxophone with the Greenville Symphony and the South Carolina Philharmonic. He also worked with noted composer Meira Warshauer and performed the world premier of a transcription of her work "In Memoriam September 11, 2001" for clarinet and bass clarinet.

Mr. Alter is currently director of bands at Ridgeway High School in Memphis Tennessee, where he is pursuing a DMA in clarinet performance at the University of Memphis.

Adam teaches clarinet, bass clarinet, saxophone, and flute at the Academy. Call 901.683.3600 and request Adam as your instructor today!
