Great news for our ECS Eagles softball program!

We are excited to announce that Coach Jason Redd has been named the new ECS Eagles Varsity Softball Head Coach!

Coach Redd has served as the Eagles Varsity Baseball Assistant Coach and Junior Varsity Head Coach since 2018. He played baseball at the collegiate level at Harding University and at LeMoyne-Owen College where he was named All-SIAC.

Currently, Coach Redd serves as the ECS Lower School Athletics Director and PE teacher, and he will continue to serve in this role. Coach Redd has also coached ECS middle school girls basketball for the past three seasons, and he led last year’s 7th grade team to a 7/8 Shelby League championship.

Head of School Braxton Brady said, “Coach Redd is an excellent coach and has a great knowledge of the sport. He is a favorite teacher and coach among students of all ages at ECS, and I am excited that our softball team will benefit from his leadership. I am confident he will be a great asset to our softball program.”

Coach Redd has vast experience in the sports industry. Prior to coming to ECS, he has held various roles in marketing and communications for Trigon Sports and the University of Memphis Athletics Department.

Join us in congratulating Coach Redd on his new role!

Don’t miss this article on a fellow ECS grad!

In a world where only 5.6% of high school baseball players advance to play in college, and a staggering .03% of Little Leaguers make it to the major leagues, Brent Rooker, ECS class of 2013, is living proof that big league dreams do come true!

After three years of trying to get his big break — bouncing back and forth between the majors and minors, getting traded twice and claimed on waivers — Brent continued to work while waiting for his opportunity. In 2023, Brent earned an everyday spot in the lineup with the Oakland A’s and on July 11, 2023, made his MLB All-Star debut!

We are extending our Fall Week of Giving through this weekend!

As some of you are aware, the third-party vendor who hosts our online giving experienced technical difficulties, and the system was unable to process donations when Fall Week of Giving began last weekend. As a result, many of you in our community could not make your donations online. Due to that setback, we are extending Fall Week of Giving through Sunday, October 29.

If you have not already contributed to the Annual Fund, which supports many of our programs including the Jim Heinz Athletics Fund, the Dee Baker Teacher Development Fund, the Fine Arts Fund and the Security Fund, there is still time.

Click here to learn more about each of these initiatives and to support the ECS Annual Fund: ecseagles.com/support-ecs/ecs-annual-fund

Many of you have already contributed to our Fall Week of Giving to benefit the ECS Annual Fund, and we thank you very much. We are deeply grateful for your commitment to financially advance the mission of ECS.

IT'S FALL WEEK OF GIVING, a great time to support the ECS Annual Fund. The Annual Fund ensures all of our programs are fully funded, maximizing the student experience at ECS. One of these program initiatives is the SECURITY FUND.

Student safety is at the forefront of every parent’s mind in today’s world. Under the experienced guidance of Security Directors Mike and Lora Strauss, ECS has made significant strides over the last two years to ensure that both of our campuses are more secure than ever before. The security fund will allow us to continue to upgrade significant items such as fencing, gates, security software, cameras, door control access and armed personnel.

Our Annual Fund goal is BOLD: to raise $500,000 to support our programs. Will you be BOLD in your support of the ECS Annual Fund?

IT'S FALL WEEK OF GIVING, a great time to support the ECS Annual Fund. The Annual Fund ensures all of our programs are fully funded, maximizing the student experience at ECS. One of these program initiatives is the FINE ARTS FUND.

The ECS Fine Arts department is one of the most recognized programs in the region, having won Most Outstanding awards in a competitive field of both public and private schools in the following categories at the 2023 Orpheum’s High School Musical Theater Awards: Most Outstanding Director, Most Outstanding Large Ensemble, Most Outstanding Choreography and Most Outstanding Chorus.

In order to continue to offer our students the best Fine Arts experience possible, we need to upgrade our chapel with better lighting, sound and prop/set storage. In our effort to offer the most well-rounded fine arts program, we also need to create new visual arts spaces, including a pottery studio, to accommodate growing demand.

One of these funds is the DEE BAKER TEACHER DEVELOPMENT FUND.

We often hear from our students and alumni about the lasting impact that our teachers make on their academic, social, emotional and spiritual lives. Coach Dee Baker, in whose memory this fund was established, is an example of one such teacher who greatly impacted students during his 39 years of teaching and coaching at ECS. As a way to honor Coach Baker’s legacy, the teacher development fund will help us seek, hire and retain mission-fit teachers and train them in ongoing professional development to pursue excellence both inside and outside of the classroom.

One of these program initiatives is the JIM HEINZ ATHLETICS FUND.

Named in memory of the Hall of Fame Coach Jim Heinz, this fund will be used to support and upgrade athletics facilities on the Shelby Farms campus. Upgrades to our weight room, locker rooms, softball and soccer facilities are our top priorities and our most immediate needs. These improvements will help develop our student-athletes physically to better compete with schools across the state, while also developing them spiritually in Christian discipleship offered by coaches who share Coach Heinz’s goal of building godly leaders for life.
