Technology Services / Learn More About Student Devices
Good Afternoon Ola Family,
I wanted to send out a reminder today about next week. The reminder is for all 3rd-5th grade parents. We are receiving our chromebook devices for the students next Thursday. As a parent, you must go online and sign the acknowledgement of the device. The information for this was passed out earlier this month, but I will include a link below with more information. We are up to 65% of our parents completing the form so far. Your student cannot receive a device until this is signed. Please let us know if you are having trouble with the website. Thanks!

Hello Ola Family,
I just want to thank all of our parents, students, and teacher for a great start to the school year. The first 2 weeks of school have flown by, and we are looking forward to a great year. We will be posting upcoming events and information about the school regularly on this page, so like us to keep up with events.
The first event we have coming up is the solar eclipse. The PTO board has purchased glasses for every student in the school, and we will be sending home permission slips with students next week. Students must have a filled out slip in order to view the eclipse on the 21st. Thanks!

Hello Ola Family,
I just wanted to follow-up with some concerns about not getting the email that was sent out yesterday during the lock down. If you did not get an email during this time, please check with the school. The system sends out emails based on the email we have listed on the IC account. It may need to be updated or changed on your account. Our front office staff would be glad to assist you with this process. Thanks!

The soft lockdown has been lifted by local law enforcement. Thank you for your patience and understanding. All students and staff are safe.
04/28/2015
Parents,
This message is to inform you that your child’s school has been placed on a soft lockdown due to a recently reported home invasion in the area. The suspect is currently being sought, but until law enforcement apprehends the suspect, our school (along with Ola Middle, Ola High School, and Mainstay Academy) will remain on soft lockdown. No one will be allowed in or out of the schools during this time, but classes will carry on as normal. There is no need to come to the school as you will not be allowed access. All students and staff are fine and safe. This message is just to inform you of the situation at this moment. Updates will be provided as they become available.

Good Morning Ola Family,
I just wanted to give a big shout out today for Curt Miller and the rest of Ola High School. It is with their help that we now have our very own defibrillator. I pray we never have to use it, but at least we know we have it for someone who may one day need it. Thanks again Coach Miller and Ola High School!
P.S. Please thank them as well if you get the chance! We are Ola!

Good Morning Ola Family,
I hope everyone is having a great, and you are ready for the break next week. I have a few items to update you on as we head into the break.
1. Please remember to sign up for you parent portal account to see your students grades. This will be the method that reports cards go out for Henry County this year. You may come in with an ID and get your information or click on the link in one of the previous posts to gain access that way.
2. I want to thank everyone for their support of our Fall Festival and Cookie Dough fundraisers. The money raised will go a long way in keeping up programs in the school and adding new items to enhance your child's education.
3. Support Our Lego Club:
The Ola Elementary Lego club has entered the McDonough Scarecrow contest. To vote you can go to the McDonough Square to any participating business (one with a sign that says Vote Here) to cast your vote between now and October 31. Anyone who can write his/her name is eligible to vote, but only one vote per person is allowed. Our display is located in front of the old pawn shop. We have spot 99. If we win the People's Choice Award, we will have $400 for the club. We are also eligible to win 1st or 2nd prize in the school category, which would mean $200 or $150, respectively. So spread the word, and don't forget to vote! Winners will be announced on November 1 at the Chili Cook-off.

Good Evening Ola Family,
I hope everyone's year is going as fast as mine. I just wanted to send out a reminder about our Fall Festival next Saturday. We are still in desperate need of volunteers to work booths. Please contact your child's teacher and let them know when you can volunteer. Fall festival is always our biggest fundraiser of the year, and it goes to pay for a lot of programs and items the school needs from year to year. We appreciate any time you can spare.

Good Morning Ola Family,
We are trucking through the week at record pace, and I wanted to send out a few reminders about upcoming events.
1. Please remember the cookie dough fundraiser ends on Friday, so you can turn the packets and money in on Friday.
2. Please remember this weekend is a 4 day weekend for your students. Labor day in Monday and Tuesday is Professional Learning Day for teachers.
3. Also, you need to make sure you are signed up for campus portal, so you can check your students grades and school info. I will post a link to the webpage you get your code from. You will need your child's student number, SSN, and date of birth. We cannot give you your child's student number over the phone, but your child should be using everyday in the lunchroom and media center.

Dear Ola Family,
We will soon be getting ready to wrap-up our first week of school. It has been an awesome week here at Ola. I know the students will be tired after a full week of school, so let them rest for the week to come. A few reminders as we head into the weekend:
1. Please come by and pick up your parent portal letter to access your kids grades and report card for the year.
2. Read to your kids whenever you can, and let them read to you.
3. Our first school fundraiser for the year will kick off next week, so look for information coming home with your child next week.

Dear Parents and Guardians,
Thank you for your patience with regards to having to close school on Wednesday because of our inoperable sprinkler system. The sprinkler system was down because of a water pipe that burst in several classes late Tuesday afternoon.
The great news is our crews quickly fixed the sprinkler system, and we have made arrangements to shift students where necessary inside the building so that everyone can return to school on Thursday.
The classrooms sustaining damage should be fixed soon, as we have crews working currently to get things back and functional. In the meantime, the few classrooms affected will temporarily shift inside the school to other available classrooms. Again, this is temporary and has been worked out with all staff members.
Our goal at Ola is to provide a safe place to receive a top-notch education. We feel that our temporary adjustments still allow us to accomplish our goals.
As always, if you have any questions, please contact me at 770-957-5777 or email: [email protected]
We hope you have a great evening, and we look forward to welcome everyone back after our extended holiday break.
Sincerely,
Mr. Mitchell R. Stephens
Principal
Ola Elementary

Parents and Guardians,
We hope that you all had a great semester break and have stayed warm during the recent cold weather we have experienced.
This message is to let you know that we regrettably will have to keep Ola Elementary closed for at least one extra day due to a water pipe that burst on Tuesday afternoon.
While staff members were in the building this afternoon working to prep the school for students and staff to return on Wednesday, they were witness to a water pipe bursting in one of the classrooms. Despite their immediate response, a large amount of water subsequently flooded many other classrooms and rendered the emergency sprinkler system inoperable. This sprinkler system is key a safety measure in place in the event of a fire.
Despite many people working on the situation at this moment, we will not be able to open the school to students tomorrow. Part of our current, ongoing work is developing a contingency plan to get students back to school and class in a clean, safe, and properly functioning environment. At this moment, we don’t know when that will be. We are trying to make this inconvenience as limited as possible, and we will keep you updated as progress is made.
We will send a message update to you tomorrow when we know more about the plans for the rest of the week. This message will also be posted on the Ola Elementary website.
Thank you for your understanding as we work to fix this problem and restore the building back to the safe, warm environment that it is known as.
If you have any questions, please email me on Tuesday evening at [email protected]. Or you may try calling the school on Wednesday morning as some staff members may be there.
Again, we will send out a message tomorrow and post the same information on our school website.
- Mitch Stephens, Principal
