Happy Leap Day! Did you know... Leap Day is typically celebrated on February 29. Some countries don’t follow the Gregorian calendar model. For instance, China adds a leap month every three years. Leap Day happens once every four years. The concept of Leap Day originated in Rome. In a leap year, there are 366 days. Leap year was originally necessary to maintain crop growth. The extra day was added to February because the notoriously cold month was an afterthought. Ancient Romans didn’t count January or February because they were irrelevant to crop growth. When they were added to the calendar, February was the last month and had the fewest days.

Meet Sylvan owners Ana and Jason McCoskey! 🌟

With over a decade of entrepreneurial experience and degrees in international business and marketing, Ana attributes her high value in education to her struggles learning English as a second language growing up. "I am a living example of great opportunities that opened up because of education." When she relocated to St. Louis as part of her former marketing role, she met Jason.

Jason, who also brings international business and marketing experience to the table as well as project management expertise, attended Sylvan for supplemental education when he was younger. He heads up the support departments in their center while Ana handles the everyday operations.

The husband-and-wife duo loves making an impact on students together!

Today is a fun one! It's National Tell a Fairytale Day! This is a great way to encourage your child's creativity and writing skills to come up with a fun tall tale to share with your family. Start with a premise that might interest them- it can be anything from princes and princesses to robots and space aliens. Then have them write a short story that they can read to you this evening. It is a great way to get those creative juices flowing while working on critical classroom skills.

Fun winter animal facts! Did you know? Some animals remain and stay active in the winter. They must adapt to the changing weather. Many make changes in their behavior or bodies. To keep warm, animals may grow new, thicker fur in the fall. On weasels and snowshoe rabbits, the new fur is white to help them hide in the snow.

Presidents Day, commonly known as Washington’s Birthday, is a federal holiday observed on the third Monday of February in the United States.
It is a day to commemorate the birthdays of two of America’s most renowned presidents: George Washington, the first President of the United States, and Abraham Lincoln, the 16th.
The holiday was created to commemorate George Washington, who was born on February 22, 1732. It was declared a federal holiday in 1879 and became a national holiday in the United States with the enactment of the Uniform Monday Holiday Act in 1968.
Presidents Day is a day set aside to celebrate and reflect on the legacies of these two great Presidents, who helped shape the United States into what it is today.

Fun Snowy Facts! Did you know Because snow is a collection of individual ice crystals grouped together, it appears white. When light strikes snow, it bounces all around the ice crystals, resulting in a “color” that is equal to parts of all the visible spectrum frequencies. Individual ice crystals are transparent rather than white, as we perceive in snow.
