All summer long I cut and sewed quilt tops. Tops have been made into quilts by the Texas Grandmas here at Casa del Valle in South Texas and are keeping children warm as the temps have been in the 40's at night. We have also made, bought, stuffed and distributed 516 Christmas stockings to the children of the Rio Grande Valley during the past month. Stocking hats made by residents of Casa del Valle are keeping heads warm. Stuffed animals help to comfort many children. Thanks to all who helped in any way. Items to help make this distribution possible came from as far away as Canada and all across the United States. Again Thanks,

The timing of your baby's immunizations is very important because vaccines work best when they're given at the right time. Your baby needs her immunizations when she is very young so that she can be protected from vaccine-preventable diseases when she is most vulnerable.

Our hearts broke last Friday as we learned of the tragic and senseless deaths of 20 children and six adults at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut. Our hearts and prayers go out to their families and community.

Educators, governments and businesses understand technology's role in preparing our next-generation workforce and the importance of competing in a borderless digital world.

Parents’ influence on their children, from infancy through adolescence, is more significant than any other stage in their lives!

Parents' active involvement with their child's education at home and in school brings great rewards which in return can have a significant impact in their lives. M.I.E.L reinforces to parents that a home environment that encourages learning is even more important than parents' income, education level, or cultural background. By actively participating in their child's education at home and in school, parents will send critical messages to their child, demonstrating their interest in his/her activities, and reinforcing the idea that school is important.

Pre-school age children do not necessarily learn to read at an early age when families read to them. Instead, they learn important "pre-literacy skills" that will help them learn to read when they go to school. They learn what a book is and how it works. They learn that printed letters stand for sounds and words.

The flu vaccine is, indeed, a good idea for families. The flu shot does not cause the flu and it keeps kids and parents from getting sick. Getting the flu is worse than having a cold and can make a person sick for a week or more.

Reading is the first academic building block in teaching a child how to learn, but also exposes them to the vast world beyond their rooms. By reading and soliciting a child's response, a parent is encouraging natural curiosity and fostering a desire for learning. Also, as a parent engages the child in the subject matter, the interaction between reader and child assists with social skills.

Flu season runs from October to May. It's best to get a flu shot early in the season, as it gives the body a chance to build up immunity to, or protection from, the flu. But getting a shot later in the season is still better than not getting the vaccine at all.

Just 20 minutes a day reading aloud with young children strengthens relationships, encourages listening and language skills, promotes attention and curiosity, and establishes a strong reading foundation. These skills are essential for success in school and in life.

The Most Important 20 Minutes of Your Day! Reading to Your Children!

When a critical portion of a community is immunized against a contagious disease, most members of the community are protected against that disease because there is little opportunity for an outbreak.

Immunization (vaccination) is a way of creating immunity to certain diseases by using small amounts of a killed or weakened microorganism that causes the particular disease.
