Recently Mrs. Sells Scientific Research class and Mr. Raigoza’s CDC 1 class got to collaborate in a mini Science Fair project! The research students lead Mr. Raigoza’s students through the scientific method and ended the collaboration with a mini science fair to show off their work!
Congratulations to Hannah Thomas on her awards from the Southern Appalachian Science and Engineering Fair held at the University of Tennessee. Hannah entered her project from Mrs. Sells scientific research class titled: “Using Pleurotus ostreatus Mycelium to Biodegrade Hydrocarbons in Motor Oil.”
Hannah won the following awards: Certificate of Excellence: Best Chemical Engineering Related Project in the Senior Division of SASEF, The Office of Naval Research: Naval Science Award, Ricoh Sustainable Development Award (RSDA), and the Society for Women Engineers Award, Smokey Mountain Section. Hannah also came home with $125 in prize money.
Another great STEAM night at Rockford Elementary! Our students love getting out into the community and working with the younger students!
Tonight we enjoyed participating in the Montvale Elementary STEAM night! The students enjoyed making harmonicas and playing with the Makey Makey learning about circuits!
These students had a great time participating in the 30th Tennessee Science Bowl this weekend! They represented their school well!
These girls enjoyed visiting Oak Ridge today for Introduce a Girl to Engineering Day! It was a great opportunity for them to explore different careers in engineering and meet some successful female engineers!

Scientific Research started winding down the semester by making ornaments with Heritage High School CDC 1 class last week! We love these guys and the friendships we have made this semester!
We had an awesome meeting today making our “Circuit-Trees” for the holidays! It took a lot of patience for them to finish their trees and get their circuits completely closed. So proud of these guys! We ended up with so great looking trees!
These girls are troopers and stood in the rainy weather to hand out candy for the trick or treating event before the football game tonight!
