Did you see this? Open Doors becomes La Paloma Academy Marana next year! We’re getting excited for all that’s new! This is going to be great for our kids and families.
Hello, parents and friends. It is time to celebrate! On Monday, the Arizona State Board of Charter Schools (ASBCS) approved Liberty Traditional Charter School's application to expand at our site. What this means is that the school will be open next year and moving forward, but under a new name - La Paloma Academy Marana.
Having La Paloma Academy operate the school is going to be a wonderful opportunity for our children, their families and the greater Marana community. The new leadership loves the school and wants the essence of it to remain. They plan to continue free before and after school programming and ramp up new programs and activities at the school.
La Paloma's group of educators is deeply committed to high quality education. As I shared with you before, they run three charter school groups with eight total schools throughout the state. They are a highly experienced, warm, and welcoming group, with a passion for children and their education. Best of all, they want to lead with continuity, and plan to keep the essence of Open Doors and the teaching staff in place. This is great news for our Open Doors family.
In the coming weeks, we will be working with each family to enroll your children in school next year, and to open enrollment from the community at-large. La Paloma school administrators will also send a survey to parents to hear your hopes, dreams and needs for future programming. And before the end of the year, we will hold a celebration to honor the history and legacy of Open Doors Community School as well as an Open House with the team from La Paloma.
Thank you, so much, for your commitment to Open Doors, for your love of our school, and for trusting in us to educate your children - even in a year of transition. It's been a true honor walking this mile together; we look forward to an amazing end to the school year.

A Proposal for a New Charter Home with
La Paloma Academy
Hello, parents and friends. We have important news to share that will shape the future of the school. As many of you know, the school was faced with significant transitions last year, both in leadership and financially as Open Doors did our best to cope with the pandemic. Being a small school has a lot of benefits for children and families, but the downside is that we are often faced with a lack of financial resources necessary to run the school. Last year, I was asked to join the school to lead it through transition and find options for a better future.
By late summer, AZYP, the nonprofit that founded the school, decided they wanted to make a change, to focus on the strength of their prevention programs and cease supporting the operations of the school. Knowing this, I began a search to find a charter school group that would be interested in bringing Open Doors under its wing. I believe we have found that with the La Paloma Academy group, and have been in discussions with their charter holder and the Arizona State Board of Charter Schools (ASBCS) to determine our next steps.
The Charter Holder of La Paloma Academy, through their Liberty Traditional Charter Schools, has submitted an application to the Arizona State Board of Charter Schools for a site expansion. They would like to add our school to their family and operate their charter at our site. The Arizona State Board of Charter Schools is considering their proposal at their board meeting on Monday, March 14, 2022 at 9:00am. If approved, this group would operate the school next year.
Having La Paloma Academy take us on board is a wonderful opportunity to ensure the long-term viability of our school, and for the children, families, and community who have come to rely on us. If the state board approves, they will assume the leadership and ownership of the school and breathe new life into our programming and your child's education. Their family of schools is comprised of a group of educators deeply committed to high quality education. They run three charter school groups with eight total schools throughout the state: La Paloma Academy, Liberty Traditional, and Heritage Schools. They are a highly experienced, warm, and welcoming group, with a passion for children and their education. Best of all, they want to lead with continuity, and plan to keep the essence of Open Doors and the teaching staff in place. This is great news for our Open Doors family.
I know this is a lot to think about as you return from Rodeo Break, so I am inviting you to a Town Hall where you can hear first hand more information about this opportunity, and so that I can answer any questions you may have. I think you'll find that this move to join a larger school community, while maintaining our small school family, will turn out to be a wonderful opportunity for our school.
