🚀 **YouthBuild Louisville Staff Retreat Recap** 🚀

We just wrapped up our annual six day all staff retreat, and what a week it was! From diving deep into communication strategies, planning, and performance stats to honing our cross-training skills and IT logistics, we covered it all. 💪

We also dedicated time to important topics like boundaries, mental health, HR, benefits, and refining our procedures for serving students and clients. 🌟 But it was not all work; our team bonded through fun icebreaker games, pool tournaments, baseball outings, and shared meals. 🏓⚾🍽️

Our retreat was not just about gearing up internally; we made a meaningful impact in the community by volunteering with Metro United Way, Family & Children's Place, SOS, and Bellewood & Brooklawn. 🤝

As we gear up for the new school year starting September 9th, we are more prepared and energized than ever. **WE ARE READY!!** 🎉

🎓🌿 **Congratulations to Our Urban Conservation Corps Graduates!** 🌿🎓

This past Friday, August 9th, we proudly celebrated the graduation of 14 dedicated members of our Urban Conservation Corps (UCC) program. Their hard work and commitment this year have led to remarkable achievements:

🌟 **Trail and Land Restoration:** In partnership with Bernheim Arboretum and Research Forest, YMCA Camp Piomingo, Jefferson Memorial Forest & Natural Areas, and more, our UCC graduates have removed invasive species and maintained 6 miles of public trails and 7 acres of land.

🌱 **Urban Agriculture Hub:** Thanks to our collaboration with the Parks Alliance of Louisville, the team has developed a 3.5 acre urban agricultural hub at Alberta O. Jones Park. Known as "The Farm," it features 60 raised beds, pollinator meadows, and other vital additions to address environmental challenges and support local communities.

🥕 **Food Security Efforts:** On our YouthBuild Louisville campus, the team grew approximately 650 lbs of fresh produce to combat food insecurity in the communities we serve.

⏱️ **Impactful Service:** With 13,600 hours of collective service, our graduates have forged a deep connection with the urban environment. Whether they become landscapers, park rangers, or electricians, their impact on their communities and their personal growth will be felt for years to come.

We are immensely proud of their accomplishments and excited to see how they will continue to make a difference! We extend our gratitude to the media for covering our event. A special thank you to WDRB News, WAVE and Spectrum for their support.

The young people in our Urban Conservation Corps are off for a 2 week internship gardening in the Kings Garden in Versailles France!!!
!!HAVE A GREAT ADVENTURE!!

On May 23 our Urban Conservation Corps students will be embarking on an amazing adventure! They will be traveling to Versailles, France to do a two week internship gardening at the King’s Garden!!!! We are in need of a few Large gently used pieces of luggage (with 4 wheels only). If you have one to donate, you can drop it off any time between now and next Tuesday between 8:30-5:30 any week day! 800 S. Preston St. 40203.

On Friday, for our student’s AmeriCorps service project, the YouthBuild students assisted the Kentucky Derby Festival with preparation for Thunder Over Louisville!

🍃Before our students took off for spring break last Friday, they volunteered at Bernheim Forest helping prep for spring programming by mulching & cleaning the visitor’s center🍃

YouthBuild preparing for summer program that helps more than 2,000 kids find jobs in Louisville YouthBuild has room for around 2,500 to 3,000 kids every year, but they work to find space for every kid that walks through the door.

To wrap up National AmeriCorps week, another group of our students took a day trip to the Cincinnati area. First stop was the Underground Railroad Freedom Center Museum. Then after lunch they headed to YMCA Camp Ernst and assist in prepping the grounds for spring and summer campers! A fun day of education and service ♥️

Our young people who serve as proud AmeriCorps members have been celebrating in a big way. For the past 4 days, 14 of our students traveled to Appalachia to Auxier, KY to work with Hand and Hand to repair flooring in two homes that were in desperate need and had no resources to repair them. It was a humbling and rewarding experience for all our students. Reach out and help others in need ♥️
