Do you know this fellow? He's the "walk" symbol shown on pedestrian signals at traffic lights in Germany. Specifically, this Ampelmännchen ("traffic light man") reflects the iteration from former East Germany that can still be found in some Eastern German cities today. The Ampelmännchen has acquired cult status, and people can buy a variety of Ampelmännchen products. Many tourists see them for the first time when they visit (East) Berlin.
This statue was put up in Frankfurt/Main (Hesse) for the celebrations surrounding the 25-year anniversary of German reunification in 2015.
