Our little ones experience big feelings they don’t always know how to manage. The more we guide them with patience and empathy, the more confident they’ll feel in handling emotions as they grow. Here are some ways to support emotional development at home.

Our is thoughtfully designed to foster independence at every stage. Through open-ended play and hands-on learning experiences, children are encouraged to explore, make choices and practice everyday life skills. We meet each child where they are and gently guide them toward greater autonomy. Our environments are intentionally arranged to promote self-direction and confidence because we believe our little ones are capable of big things!
Here are some ways to help foster at home:
✨Let your child choose between two outfits in the morning. This fosters decision-making without overwhelm.
✨Involve them in mealtime prep. Washing veggies or stirring batter builds pride and practical life skills.
✨Use a stool or child-sized tools to make tasks more accessible.
✨Encourage “first tries” even if they don’t do it perfectly. Resist the urge to fix it immediately.
✨Offer praise for effort, not just results. Such as “you worked hard to zip your jacket!”
✨Build in time for them to practice. Rushing can create stress and undermine confidence.
Giving your child space to try helps them build resilience and trust in themselves.

April is , a time to celebrate the many ways children think, feel and experience the world. At Brella, we embrace neurodiversity not only in April, but every day, by creating environments that honor different learning styles, communication preferences and sensory needs.
When we talk to children about how people are different, we use real-world examples they can understand:
🧠 Some people focus best when it’s quiet, while others do their best thinking with background noise.
🎨 Some children speak with words, others express themselves through movement, pictures or sounds.
👀 Some children notice details others might miss, like patterns in the clouds or the tiniest bug on a leaf.
🌀 Routines and predictability help many children feel calm, safe and ready to explore.
👐 Everyone has their own way of making friends. Some jump right in, others take their time.
Let’s keep showing our children the many beautiful ways we are different.♾️💙

Our tiniest learners explored the world of Goldilocks and the Three Bears through sensory play that introduced opposites - soft and hard, big and small. With textures, bowls and bears to explore, this classic tale sparked curiosity and encouraged development through touch, movement, and language.
What our infants experienced:
✨Tummy time and crawling toward objects of varying size and texture
✨Gentle language exposure with phrases like “Big Bear” and “Little Bear”
✨Sensory bins that supported grasping, reaching and early solitary play
✨Playful interaction with peers through side-by-side exploration
Even our youngest Brella children are learning through meaningful, hands-on experiences each day.
Learning Outcomes
✔️Peer Relationships - small group introduction
✔️Mobility - lying on back, discovering hands/feet, tummy time, crawling and cruising
✔️Development of Play - grasping and interest in held items, tummy time for play and the beginning of solitary play

This month, Brella kids will be learning about Earth Science, where we'll explore topics like rocks, soil, weather and natural habitats. We'll explore through hands-on activities like:
🎈Creating our own Big Bang with paint filled water balloons.
🌱Planting seeds and observing how they grow.
📕Reading books like If I Had a Dinosaur and imagining what it would be like if dinosaurs still roamed the Earth today!
Fun Fact: Did you know that soil is alive? A single tablespoon of healthy soil can contain more microorganisms than there are people on Earth! 🌎

At Brella, our enrichment program is seamlessly woven into our Literacy Workshop, building early bilingual vocabulary through stories, visuals and conversation. Each month, we choose a bilingual book to read aloud.
Here's how our children engage with each story:
📕We begin with a picture walk, encouraging children to describe what they see and guess what might happen - building curiosity and Spanish vocabulary.
📕Then we read the book aloud, start to finish, to absorb the rhythm and flow of the language.
📕We review the story sequence (beginning, middle and end) inviting children to recall key events and words in Spanish.
📕With repeated readings, we introduce sight words and vocabulary, deepening recognition through playful repetition.
📕Finally, children are invited to draw a scene or detail from the book, connecting storytelling with personal expression.

📣 Booking is now open for the month of May! Plan ahead and schedule child care for the spring. Full, part time, and flexible preschool spots are available at Brella Playa Vista, Pasadena and Brella Hollywood.
In May, we will explore the biome and the diversity of ponds, lakes, streams, rivers and wetlands.
We'll learn about this biome:
📕 In Literacy Workshop by diving into stories like Water Dance
💦 Using STEAM Workshop to explore the concepts of condensation
🦫 By building our very own beaver dams
..and so so much more.
While only 3% of the Earth's water comes from freshwater biomes, they contain over 100,000 species of plants and animals. With so many species co-existing and with no two freshwater biomes being exactly the same, these biomes are a great way to introduce diversity and how that diversity can bring nature together!

Recently, our Modern Life exploration took root in an exciting way when our children created their very own flower shop! 🌺 Using recycled boxes, they worked together to build the structure, showing creativity, teamwork and problem-solving. Once assembled, they painted it in vibrant colors, transforming their ideas into reality.
What the children explored:
✨ Practiced social skills by taking turns as shopkeepers and customers, learning cooperation, role-playing and communication.
✨Developed fine motor skills by crafting flowers from paper, tissue and pipe cleaners.
✨Discovered early math concepts by counting flowers, sorting them by color and size and exchanging pretend money for bouquets.
✨Connected play to real-life experiences, understanding how shops work and how people exchange goods.
More than just imaginative play, this flower shop became a hub of learning and real-world connections. What everyday experiences does your little one love to recreate in play? 🌿✨
Learning Outcomes:
✔️ Social Emotional - Cooperation, communication, social interactions, role playing, sharing space and resources
✔️Cognitive - Language (colors, textures), early math (counting, sorting)
✔️Motor - Fine and gross motor through large scale building, assembling, arranging
✔️Practical Life Skills - Understanding community roles, relating play to real life experiences like shopping and currency

This , we celebrate the women who shape the world in the past, present and future. From the trailblazers who broke barriers to the educators nurturing the next generation, their impact is immeasurable.
As a female-founded company with many incredible women leading and educating in our centers, we take pride in creating a space where children see strong women in action every day. At Brella, we believe in raising confident, compassionate and curious children, where little girls see limitless possibilities and little boys grow up valuing equality. Through storytelling, play and everyday interactions, we introduce our children to strong female voices, empowering them to dream big and lead with kindness.
Let’s continue uplifting and advocating for a future where every child feels seen, valued and capable of achieving anything.

Taking turns and waiting is hard - especially for young children! But is a skill that can be developed over time through everyday moments. Instead of just telling your little one to “wait,” try these simple strategies to help them practice:
✨ Use a visual timer so they can see time passing.
✨ Play turn-taking games to reinforce waiting and fairness.
✨ Start a small “growing” project like planting seeds to observe change over time.
✨ Encourage deep breaths when waiting feels hard.
✨ Praise moments when they show patience (“I noticed you waited so nicely for your turn!”).
The more opportunities children have to practice, the easier waiting will feel!
