Happy Dot Day! Today we read Peter Reynolds book βThe Dotβ. It is a great reminder of how we make our mark in the world.
Learning about the five senses, colors, and shapes can be fun!
Back to school activities included learning about the primary and secondary colors through experiences. Marble painting, watercolor experimentation, and reading βMouse Paintβ.
With the eclipse happening today, we made our own eclipse viewer. In California we only saw a partial eclipse, but it was fun to pass around the viewer (pinhole cereal box), for the kids to see. ππππππ
We've had a fun start to our summer session, learning all about animals that live in the sea. We know all about octopus, fish and hermit crabs! πππ¦
We have been checking on April the Giraffe everyday this week at GB. The wait is finally over! April had her baby this morning. π
Our grass baskets are all grown and ready to go home. Today we started coloring our hard boiled eggs and filled our baskets with some goodies. π£π₯π¬
Today at Great Beginnings, we enjoyed having Molly Hogan from Wildworks. We are so lucky to have the opportunity to see these beautiful, non-releasable wild animals up close. ππ¦π¦ ππΏ
We had a fun St. Patrick's day at Great Beginnings! The leprechauns made mischievous messes everywhere. We had a rainbow hunt to make pots of gold, we enjoyed a "green tasting" party, we found the leprechauns pants in our trap, we found gold coins scattered around the yard, and we tasted shamrock shakes after nap. πππHappy St. Patrick's Day!
We are getting ready for Molly Hogan, of Wildworks to come visit us on Wednesday, March 22nd with some of her non-releasable wild animals.
We are all ready for "Dad's Night" at Great Beginnings. We can't wait to see all our GB dad's with their kids tonight from 5-6:30!π¦ππ§π
The start of spring brings monarch caterpillars and butterflies to our garden. Today we got to watch a butterfly emerge from its chrysalis!
Today we experimented with instant snow. Although it was not cold like snow, we discovered that it was wet like snow, fluffy like snow and squishy like snow.
We are learning all about weather. Today we did a science experiment with water (to represent the atmosphere), shaving cream (to represent clouds) and food coloring (to represent the rain.)

We've been working hard making our annual holiday ornaments using gourds. This year the "big class" tried something new. βοΈππThey are almost all ready to go home. Happy Holidays!
Stone Soup at Great Beginnings was a success! It is so great to teach children how to wash, cut and prepare a meal together. π½π π Happy Thanksgiving! π¦
Today we harvested our sweet potatoes from the garden, and roasted them in the oven to eat!
Halloween fun at GB! ππ»πΈ
During the month of October, we have had a lot of fun learning all about bats and pumpkins. It's beginning to look, and smell (pumpkin spice pumpkins and play dough) like fall at Great Beginnings.
We have been learning all about our 5 senses. This week to celebrate our sense of hearing, we made musical instruments with recycled materials, and uncooked rice and beans.
Here's what we got to experience today at GB. A very large Praying Mantis was walking around our garden at school. As we watched it walk across the trellis, it suddenly caught a bee and began to eat it alive in front of us. What a great learning-teaching experience!
We had a great first week back at GB! We've made new friends, explored different art ideas and read some new books. We got to paint with golf balls on paper, paint with marbles on paper plates, and we learned our primary and secondary colors. ππ¨

Happy Fourth of July weekend! We can't wait to start our summer session on Tuesday, July 5th!
Truly amazing to watch. We learned so much information today. Our students, 3-5 years old, learned high school biology today π
We had a great day at school today! Dr. Sue, an Entomologist, came to teach us all about "bugs". As always, it was an amazing presentation.
Today was a great day! Finally our Eastern Black Swallowtail hatched from HER chrysalis, emerging as a BEAUTIFUL butterfly. We know the butterfly is a girl because throughout this process, we learned that the girls have blue on their wings and the boys only have yellow.
Happy Earth Day! Our Eastern black swallowtail is starting its chrysalis today! ππΊπππ±π
