Green Team members had tons of fun at our “garden focus” meeting today!

Members were able to put together their own plant pal and take them home to watch the “hair” grow! Members can measure the hair (grass), trim it, or even make fun ponytails like the ones in the picture!

Send us an updated picture of your student’s plant pal when the hair starts growing ☺️ Please send pictures to: [email protected]

*ALL Green Team Meeting is next Thursday, December 19th!*

GARDEN MEETING TODAY! Green Team will be meeting on the lower grade lunch benches from 1:40-2:30PM. Students will be dismissed to the playground at the end of the meeting 😁

Please have your Green Team member bring in an old shirt that can be used for our reusable craft! Mom and dad’s shirts work best! If you have any extras lying around, feel free to send those in as well for kids that might’ve forgotten to bring a shirt.

❇️ See everyone tomorrow! ❇️

Mark Twain PTA Green Team
Clean Up The Garden Day March 7th. Everyone seemed to enjoy working in garden, especially those kids not on GT or whose teachers don’t come to garden. Think we could benefit from and enjoy more of these kinds of activities at Twain.

Green Team meeting Dec. 13th
We covered the idea of not focusing on recycling but rather reducing what plastics are purchased. Went over the resin Classification of plastics 1-7 and what are the worst to avoid and the idea of giving up straws as a simple step.
Lastly we went over what can go in your recycle container at home.
Then in the library for a reuse craft project.
Thank you to all the kids who came and parents who helped!

I Want You To Stop Recycling

Mrs. Desmond’s class working on a new raised garden bed. The girls doing the measuring and marking were so good I had to stop them before they went too far on the next bed that Mrs. Colburn’s class will build.

Dear Twain Green Team and all of Mark Twain Elementary
Bottles and Cans collection this Friday 7:40- 8:10am at the student drop off areas on lower and upper sides. Bring your plastic and aluminum cans for recycling to help support the environment and the Green Team.
Thank You

Dear Friends of the garden. It is With joy and pleasure looking back and Forward that I can say this is the last year that I will do Green Team and the Garden. Many people have helped to make these things what they are but often I have been given credit.
The garden I have enjoyed the most. So I First would like to make the case "Why a garden?" First, a lack of open spaces, parks and people raising their own food creates a difficulty in us finding a connection to the natural world around us. Should we not wish to move beyond the plastic and steel play structures and re-imagine a school play area? Should we not imagine returning to the great ocean of life from which we came, in any metophorical sense one can imagine. Our connection to our environment is what gives us our sense of place and community.
Secondly the garden allows for an experiential, interdisciplinary approach to our growth as beings. When one can learn many disciplines within one true experience there is growth that is difficult to measure, but by all studies experiences with the natural world show up in academic performance.
Thirdly I am looking for my replacement. You didn't know who you were but will after trying. No knowledge is necessary, but of course is helpful. I knew very little coming in to this. I am looking for someone to ghost me for the year and take over next. It will be more than I ever recieved for Garden, Green Team, or Parliementarian. This is a chance to get ahead and pass on knowledge and experience that could be of benefit long term.
Thank you to many who have helped and taught and encouraged me throughout this time. The great thing about this PTA is they have always given me the feeling of "We are in this together" and I have always tried to return that with helping others.

Hi everyone. Garden is looking for a soil donation. If anyone has any good Lakewood/ North Long Beach soil they need to get rid of we would love to pick it up! Thanks
