We’ve been helping our students practice healthy habits, like proper handwashing, with some fun tricks that your family can try at home! Here are some of our teachers’ favorite ways for little ones to learn about keeping those hands clean:

✔️ Wash while singing the alphabet song for a 20-second scrub.
✔️Together, list some handwashing befores and afters — like before eating a snack and after playing with pets.
✔️ Make handwashing fun with a sensory bin filled with sponges and soapy water.

At our School, we’re serious about safety, which includes being safe around water. As your family gets ready to splash your way through summer, we wanted to share a few important water safety tips:

• Don’t leave children alone near water even if it’s only a few inches deep.
• Never swim alone.
• Always swim where lifeguards are present.

After the shooting in Uvalde, Sarah Sultan, the franchisee of The Goddard School located in Houston III, TX, wanted to show support for Uvalde, so she created a t-shirt and sweatshirt design to raise money for the Robb Elementary Memorial Fund. Happy National Creativity Day! Creativity is all about giving children the freedom to make and play on their own. It can be anything from using DIY paint brushes to making mudpies in their outdoor “kitchen.” Creativity is child-led, so let your children’s imaginations run wild as they learn how to innovate while they create!

Timeline photos 05/26/2022

Our extended Goddard family is horrified and saddened by the shooting at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, TX. Acts of senseless violence have become all too commonplace and Goddard strongly condemns this act of violence. Our hearts go out to the victims, their families and the entire Uvalde community.

Here are some ways to help support your children through hard conversations.

• Check in with yourself. How are you feeling? Children are sensitive to their families’ emotions, so it’s important for you to acknowledge your own feelings before approaching hard topics. To help keep everyone calm, stick to familiar routines and structure.

• Help your child feel safe. First, ease your child’s worry and then reassure them that they’re okay. Children need to know that when bad things happen in the world there are people around them who will keep them safe.

• If you think your child has heard about recent events, let them know that it’s okay to talk about it. It gives them a safe place to share how they feel and ask questions. Naming your own emotions will help validate your children’s feelings so that it’s a little less scary.

Nearly all fine motor skills, including cutting and writing, require a dominant hand. 🤚🏻 ✏️ Hand dominance can be seen as early as age three or four, although it may not fully establish until age five. While the dominant hand performs the task, the non dominant hand has an equal and important role! The “helping hand” stabilizes the paper which builds good handwriting posture, sensory feedback, and encourages bilateral coordination! ✏️🤚🏻
