From our Prechoolers and Kindergarteners to the Senior class of Waverly!
Good morning, Potato Families!
I need your help if you have time today! I would like to try holding “office hours” for specifically Potato Class families and/or students. This will be a time for the kids in the Potato room to see each other in a smaller group setting. Mrs. Whittet, Mrs. Olger, and myself will also be present so if grown-ups have any questions or need additional resources, this would be a great time to connect. If this works out well, I can add an additional time in the evening for those who might not be available during the day. Look for an invitation to join the Google Meet at approximately 12:25 this afternoon and join us if you are available. Thanks so much, and I look forward to talking with you!

To all our Families!

To all our Families
Dear Warrior Families:
Earlier today Governor Whitmer suspended in-person instruction for all Michigan schools. The school year will proceed on a "distance-learning" basis. We wanted to share with you the framework around how we are proceeding with this news and our priorities as we plan. We do not have all the answers you are seeking... yet! Thank you for your patience as we sort out what this means for Waverly High School and for the difficult scenario that students, parents, and staff are now managing. Please see the attached letter.

Spray Bottle Alphabet Game * ages 3+ ⋆ Raising Dragons The spray bottle alphabet game is a perfect outdoor activity to help kids learn their letters of the alphabet while improving fine motor skills! So fun!
Hey C**t!!!! Come back here in 20 minutes for a music class with Mr. Onze! I'm going to be trying a few different formats for optimal contact. Spread the word.
Some awesome ways to keep your little people engaged. Thanks, Mrs. Whittet!

Give them an extra one from Mrs. Olger and me, please!

A quick and easy project that Maggie and I did today! She is a third grader but it can easily be adapted to preschool. Go on a neighborhood scavenger hunt. Take pictures of your found items, print them out, and practice cutting and gluing them down. Or, you can use your walk and/or pictures to talk about the items’ beginning letters and sounds! A link to a scavenger hunt with super-common neighborhood objects is below. Have fun!

Today’s adventures with Maggie...easy bird feeders and chalk drawings! Don’t worry, no Frances’s (Mrs. McLaren’s dog) were harmed during this activity. She enjoyed the attention and shook the chalk off later!
Bird Feeders: Bagels spread with peanut butter or shortening, pressed in birdseed, and hung from trees. Looking out for our feathered friends returning from the south!

How to Improve Cutting Skills with a Free Flower Printable
Happy, happy first day of spring! We might not be able to go out and enjoy it, but maybe we can bring a little spring inside? Try this for some fine motor and cutting practice. No need to print the template—just start with some circles and draw a few lines! Any paper (or other material) will work, and items you find around the house can be the perfect decorations to glue, tape, staple, etc. to your flowers. Have fun, and if you feel like sharing, upload a picture. I’d love to see your creative creations!

I’m sure everyone has been getting overwhelmed by the amount of resources available to keep your children engaged while on this extended break. I really like the quick mini lessons featured through Scholastic Learn at Home. They are engaging and fun and can be adapted to your schedules, which I’m certain are chaotic during this unexpected situation. Keep those little brains active by reading and playing together!

Pictures of toys interacting with nature...a great way to stay busy and get a little fresh air!
Hopefully you received the phone call letting you know that we will return to school Mon., April 13. I miss all of our Littlest Warriors!

Tonight's Preschool and Kindergarten Round-Up has been postponed until further notice.

Tomorrow is Camping Day! If your child would like, they may bring a flashlight and a sleeping bag/blanket that they can carry without assistance. We're getting creative to Grow a Love of Reading!

The Littlest Warrior Preschool is always celebrating books! In March we are planning activities to GROW A LOVE OF READING! During the week of February 24, please have your child bring in their favorite book to share and have their picture taken with. On February 27 we will send home a calendar with fun activities we plan to do throughout March!

The Potato class really enjoyed the putty I made for them to keep at school. So much so that some were disappointed they weren’t able to take it home! We compromised, and I agreed to send the recipe to their grown-ups. Putty and slime are great for building fine motor skills and sensory appreciation. It’s so much fun that they squeeze, knead, pop, squish, pinch, and stretch without even noticing they are training their bodies and minds!
Ingredients:
8 oz. of white or clear Elmers School Glue
1 tsp. baking soda
1-2 Tbs. contact lens solution (Must contain boric acid and sodium borate)
Food coloring (optional)
Glitter (optional)
Instructions:
1. Color the glue (optional): Pour the glue into a medium bowl. Stir in the food coloring and glitter, if desired. This mixture doesn't need to be homogeneous, as you'll mix it even more after adding the baking soda.
2. Add the baking soda to the glue mixture and stir until smooth.
3. Add the contact lens solution: Pour in 1-2 tablespoons of the contact lens solution and stir slowly. The mixture should begin to harden.
4. Continue mixing slowly until a ball of putty forms.
5. Knead by hand: Pick up the putty and work between your hands until smooth. If the putty is particularly slimy, work in another 1/2 tablespoon of contact lens solution as needed.
Happy playing!!

Thurs., Feb. 6--100th Day of School! Dress like you're 100 and eat 100 snacks!
