Parents, Hope you are all healthy, happy, and still semi-sane!! So, post some pictures to make our days brighter...What are you and the kiddos doing for fun while self-quarantined? Baking? Play dough? Blanket forts? Let's see some pictures and videos!!! We miss you!
Hi Everyone! Miss Wanda /Bear room teacher here. I've been thinking about our "kids" and families today. Was wondering if anyone would be willing to check in and let us know how you are all doing in all of this I know I'm missing our "normal", and my classroom :) Thinking of you all
Hello!
Researchers at Michigan State University and University of Michigan are seeking children who stutter (and age-matched non-stuttering children) between the ages of 3-6 to participate in our study on the neural bases of stuttering. With support from families like yours, we hope to better understand the neural mechanisms behind stuttering. Results from our studies may help us develop better treatments for stuttering in the future.
Your child will receive a comprehensive speech, language and cognitive assessment report and picture of their brain to take home. You will be reimbursed for your time and effort.
If you are interested in learning more or getting involved, please check out our webpage (http://www.neurostutteringresearch.com/) email our team ([email protected]), or call us at (517-884-3286). You can also fill out our interest form (Children ages 3-6: https://goo.gl/XFXLdF) and a member of our team will be sure to reach out to you to tell you more about our project!
Does physical activity affect early numeracy skills? To answer this question, the Health Behaviors and Cognition Lab is recruiting children 4-5 years old for a study. Children will visit the lab on 2 occasions (first visit: 1-hour, second visit: 20 mins) in which they will play computer games and math activities as well as engage in physical activities. Children will receive small prizes following each day and $30 for completing the study. Email us today to find out more and schedule your first visit! [email protected]
Having trouble finding a sitter for Saturday evening. Any EC3 staffers available?
Frog Class had a car wash!
Thank you so much to the awesome Gecko teachers Tammy, Julie, and Melissa, and to Betsy in the office for your help in recognizing the start of an anaphylactic reaction today. I could not be more thankful for your genuine care for B, for knowing the signs, and for not stopping calling me when you were concerned. I have always been confident in our choice in EC3 but even more so today. Thank you so very much!
Calling all LCC students with preschool-aged children! There are grants available to help cover the cost of child care. Run, don't walk, to the Adult Resource Center.
I absolutely cannot continue my weekend without giving the staff and families at EC3 a huge shout out for another successful auction!! It takes a village for sure! Parents for their Amazing support during such a fun event and throughout the years, those on the committees for the auction who are busy organizing donations, getting them picked up or arranging to have them delivered, moving all the gym toys, heavy mats, and climbers! Then we have teachers serving the food, checking people in, and out, running items back and forth or collecting bid sheets, providing child care for the night, greeting people at the doors all after coming to work as early as 6:30-7 in the morning for some!

Then there is the Amazing Art work that you wonderful teachers put together with your children in your classes!!! I know first hand the amount of work you put into these items, the challenges that may arise, the lack of cooperation from your kids at times yet, you seem to pull Amazing items together each and every year!! Thank you for all you do not only today but each and every day!! I am thankful that my daughter was able to spend her first years at EC3 and received so much love and still does every time she walks through the door! I am thankful for my EC3 family! You guys rock!! Great job tonight everyone! Miss working with so many of you but, always look forward to seeing you! Loved all of your Art pieces!! Coincidentally, I was texting with an old parent last night and when I mentioned I was at the auction, she remembered that her classroom item from the Bear room when her son attended went for $75! (Wanda, not the musician Wanda..but, EC3's first Wanda :-) and I were the Bear teachers at the time)! What a difference!! Last night's Bear item went for $2800.00!!!

So, way to go teachers, parents, staff, and of course donors!!

Icing on my cake though, was walking into a classroom...and having a sweet little 5 yr. old blonde, curly hair girl see me and get as excited as me to see her to where we both greet each other with huge hugs, and lots of tears of joy!! Except, she wasn't five anymore and it is now 14 years later!! She now works at EC3 where she was first molded!! :-) I had lots of stuff going on including needing to pack for a trip this morning but I am so glad I didn't miss this year's auction! I left 4 years ago but it is still home and feels that way every time I walk through those doors!! Thanks for being Amazing all!!
Thanks to the rockstar mom who saved my morning by carrying in nap buckets and lunches during an epic tantrum. I owe you one!
Just wanted to tell you how continually impressed I am with our sons' school. Today I was walking to the parade thinking about how grateful we are to be part of such a wonderful community. We have had amazing teachers, excellent support from the office and we are so thankful for how you have gone above and beyond for us as a family. Happy halloween from our family to EC3's; we are very grateful for you.

As we enter the winter season, we wanted to post a quick reminder of our 'snow day' policy.
EC3 management makes its best efforts to adhere to a “we only close if the State of Michigan offices close” policy. However, EC3 may also close for unforeseen circumstances, including (but not limited to):
◼ When we lose power, heat, or water for an extended period of time.
◼ When we are unable to maintain state teacher-to-student ratios.
◼ When the Health Department or licensing agency determines there is the threat of a contagious disease or illness.
◼ When hazardous weather prevents so many teachers from coming to work that we cannot maintain state teacher-to-student ratios.

If EC3 will be closed for any of these emergencies, the admin team will make every effort to notify each family in advance, via phone, e-mail, text, and/or social media.

Just a reminder that EC3 will be closed for winter holiday on Friday, December 23rd and Monday, December 26th. We will see all the back on Tuesday, December 27th.

At EC3, it’s all about involvement. We know children learn best by doing and our amazing staff create daily plans to support our children in a wide range of activities that challenge, stimulate and encourage our children. Whether it’s a sensory-rich art activity, a group time filled with songs and fingerplays, or a buggy ride in the snow, we know the more involved a child is in their day, the more they grow and develop. Well, now it’s time for YOU to get involved.
On this day, Giving Tuesday, please join the community of EC3 families, alumni and friends that assist us financially each year so that we can do the work that is so important to all of us. Every little bit helps us keep our quality and creativity alive. Just head over to www.ec3kids.org/donate. Our goal is to raise $10,000 towards our yearly budget. Why isn’t my child writing yet?

Many parents ask us this question and the answer is simple, yet complex. Technically, they are writing. Our start learning pre-writing skills as early as infancy. How, you ask? By using their fine motor skills and learning how to manipulate objects. A young child’s hand is not equipped with the structure it needs to hold a writing utensil until the age of 7.

Writing changes with growth. When a child first begins to make marks on a surface they are beginning to write. As they strengthen their hand muscles the grip begins to shift from a whole hand grip to a proper tripod hold.

So, parents, help your child develop their hand strength and encourage them to use their hands! Wash the dishes, pick up small objects, squeeze soft items. Have fun with it and before you know it, they’ll be writing!
