My Reiki Path...
Almost four months after the death of my precious soul mate in 2009, I was still overcome with grief. Physically my body ached all over and I felt exhausted as though I had been walking through mud. At the same time, inside it seemed as though every nerve in me was trying to jump out and run away. I have often heard the term “heartache,” but I was experiencing a physical heart “ache” so real that it felt like a lead weight in my chest. I was having several spontaneous crying episodes a day, never knowing when they would strike. I was isolating myself from others, feeling out of control of my life and like a failure for not being able to pull myself out of it.
My medical doctor suggested that I take antidepressants to help balance my mood swings. While that sounded like a good idea, I had some reservations about medicating the natural feelings of grief over the loss of a loved one and was hoping for a more holistic approach. My daughter, who was enrolled in a Reiki apprenticeship program, but wasn't attuned at the time, had told me about Reiki's stress relieving benefits. Truthfully it was a little hard for me to believe that something so simple could make a difference in the way I was feeling. Somewhat reluctantly, I brought up the subject of using Reiki to treat the symptoms of my grief with a therapist. Amazingly, she not only was familiar with Reiki but had studied it. After some discussion, it was decided that a good treatment plan for me would be a combination of Reiki, meditation, exercise and continuing sessions with my therapist.
Being new to energy healing, I didn't know anyone locally who did Reiki, so I traveled 250 miles to Kentucky for my first session. During my first Reiki treatment, I experienced a sense of peace and calm that I had not known for many months. Physically, my heart rate and breathing slowed and I felt less tension in my body. Emotionally, I felt a relief from anxiety and a hope that I could actually recover from my grief. Spiritually, I felt a reconnection to God and the Universe along with a general sense of well being.
After reading about Reiki and praying for spiritual guidance I decided to enroll in a beginning Reiki class so that I could give myself daily treatments. As I thought back over the long months of suffering that my companion went through with pancreatic cancer I realized how much Reiki would have helped him to cope with the anxiety, depression and physical pain of his disease. It would have also enabled me, as his caregiver, to have been calmer during his illness. With this insight, I first felt a spiritual calling to teach Reiki to others so that they could also experience the blessings of peace that comes with the regular practice of Reiki.
I became a Reiki Master in August of 2011 but I had a lot of self healing to do before I began teaching classes. The Universe gave me a clear sign July 2013 that it was time to begin teaching Reiki. My teaching path began when one of my dearest friends asked me to teach her Reiki I because her brother had just been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer, the same disease that my fiance' died from.
Not only does Reiki help the body maintain balance in the system to prevent disease, but it is becoming more widely accepted by the medical communities around the world for its relaxing, stress relieving benefits that also trigger the body's own natural healing abilities. Reiki is a complementary treatment that goes hand in hand with other healing modalities including traditional medical treatment. Reiki is used by in hospitals, mental health facilities, hospices, oncology centers and by the U.S. Army for returning military personnel who suffer from PTSD. I'm also proud to say that Reiki is now offered to cancer patients at The University of Tennessee Oncology Center here in Knoxville, Tennessee.
I offer Reiki sessions in-person in Knoxville, TN and also over any distance. I also teach all levels of Usui/Holy Fire, Reiki, Karuna and Lightarian Reiki. Please see my website www.reikibalancenbliss.com for class schedule or contact me via private message on Facebook or at [email protected]

Reiki (pronounced ray-key) is a Japanese technique for stress reduction and relaxation that also promotes healing. Reiki is a hands-on healing method used to balance the natural energies in the body to restore health in body, mind, soul and spirit and is used to treat almost every known illness.
What Is A Reiki Session Like?
A Reiki session may be experienced long distance or in person. During an in-person session, most people lie on a table fully clothed to receive a Reiki treatment although you can receive it in almost any setting, in a chair or hospital bed and through casts and bandages. Little or no pressure is applied and usually no oils are used.* The practitioner will place their hands on or above your head, shoulders, back, chest, stomach and limbs. Practitioners usually follow a series of hand positions, but may place their hands on or above an injury or other area of discomfort. Universal energy flows from the Divine source through the practitioner to you. You will receive the amount of energy you need to bring your mind and body into balance.
Each person experiences Reiki in their own unique way and no two sessions for the same person are alike. Most people experience deep relaxation. You may also feel tingling, pulsing, a feeling of warmth and comfort, or you may fall asleep. Some recipients say they feel little during the session, but afterwards enjoy a sense of calm and well-being, and a deep restful sleep. Some people may experience powerful sensations or emotions during or after a session. Every experience is different, but something good always comes from a Reiki session.
During a Reiki level I class, usually completed in one day, you learn to give Reiki to yourself as well as nonprofessionally to family, friends and pets. I personally have experienced Reiki healing from emotional problems following the death of my fiance. I healed from foot surgery in two weeks versus the four weeks the doctor predicted using Reiki and with no pain meds needed. I also stopped smoking using Reiki.
