United WE READ is a collaborative partnership model aimed at advancing the common good by raising visibility, deepening connections, and engaging supporters to build a literacy-rich community. In 2012, the United Way of Greater Kingsport identified early grade literacy as a priority Community Impact Strategy

In honor of Black History Month, we partnered with Leadership Kingsport Class of 2024 to read Mae Among the Stars ✨ to students at Jackson Elementary and Kennedy Elementary Schools! Mae Among the Stars ✨ is the TRUE STORY of Mae Jemison, the first African American Woman to travel to SPACE! 🚀
Thank you to the wonderful family liaisons at both schools who helped make this happen and to the teachers who shared their time and classroom with us!

We had such a good time Friday ✨Living Like Grunt✨ at St. Dominic School Kingsport, TN with author Nikki Burdine!

First graders (plus special guest Hudson) had the pleasure of having the wonderful book "Live Like Grunt" read to them by the author herself Nikki Burdine!
We love being a part of a community that works together to support children and their academic success, especially literacy!!

Congratulations to our Little Free Library Steward, Mallori! She is such an impressive student, musician and volunteer! We are so proud of you!

⭐CONGRATULATIONS⭐ to Dobyns-Bennett High School seniors Mallori France and Sam Perdue who have been named among 5,000 candidates in the 2024 U.S. Presidential Scholars Program, competing with top high school students nominated across the country. 🎉🇺🇸

Application is by invitation only. Students are invited to apply based on their scores on the SAT or ACT exam or their nomination by a Chief State School Officer, the year of their graduation from high school, and whether they are U.S. Citizens or Legal Permanent U.S. Residents. Students who qualify will automatically receive applications. Applicants are narrowed to 600 semifinalists and then ultimately determined to be a recipient or not.

In 1995, Dolly founded Dolly Parton's Imagination Library a book gifting program that mails free, high quality books to children from birth to age five, no matter the family's income! In 2004, Imagination Library was launched state wide in Tennessee! Since then, Imagination Library has expanded across the US and internationally into the UK, Canada, Australia and beyond and as of 2022 deliver 2 MILLION BOOKS A MONTH GLOBALLY!📚
We are grateful to have a wonderful program right here in Kingsport, Sullivan County Imagination Library that values book access for all children!
