Hey, Carena here. So sorry about the Polar Express movie. I’ve just been informed that is in Juneau only.
FastTrack Virtual School
FastTrack is a home school through the KGBSD. All the support of Public School with all the benefit Homeschool option for Alaska students
Operating as usual
This is another cool community project that the Ketchikan School District does!
The RHS kids LOVE doing it!
Common thoughts about the SAT are:
1) the more you take it, the better you get, just because you're more used to it. (So you could take it in 8th grade, if you really wanted to - however there isn't a "bulk rate" discount the more you take it) :)
2) it's better to take it now, while you're in High School, and NOT go to college, than to change your mind, and decide you want to go to college, and have to take the SAT after being out of school for awhile.
Either way, if you need help signing up for it, please call our office and we can help walk you through the process.
Did you know, you can check out any library books at any school library, and then turn it back in at any library location? (If you have problems checking out books then bringing them back)
Happy August, everyone!! :)

Free lunches for kids through the summer is an awesome service our district provides for the kids in Ketchikan. And the food is good, too! I've gone there and had halibut and salmon! Adult's meals are only 5$!!
Home School Beach Day - Tuesday, May 21. Low tide is -2.2 at 9:10 am. Ms. Lori and Ms. Jen will be at the beach by 8:30 am. We will have high school marine science students, and our fish biologist friend, Scott Walker joining us for the morning. ( Also...we have rented a port-a-potty this year - woohoo!)
Tea Party and Talent Show at The Pioneer's Home, Wednesday, May 8 at 10:30. If you plan to have your student(s) do a performance, please let us know. ( The Fast Track Puppets will be making an appearance!) Cookies, tea and punch will be provided. You are invited to bring a finger food to share, but this is optional. You may also want to have your student make a warm and friendly greeting card to leave with our senior friends - this too is optional.
Check your e-mail to see if you are listed as a talent show act, and if we've missed you, please call us ASAP.
This would be excellent as an additional resource to a parent designed entrepreneur class.

Happy perfect date, everyone!!
If you are an 8th grader, and are on track, we may be able to offer you high school credit.
If you are a Junior or a Senior, and are on track for graduating on time/early, we may be able to offer you College credit.
Contact us if you are interested!

You don't have to be enrolled full time in order to benefit from FastTrack. You can enroll over the summer and take a class, or you can dual enroll and just take one class with us, while taking the majority of your classes from a more traditional Brick and Mortar style school.
Also! We are now enrolling for Preschool! Call 247-2127 for details.
We can offer classes that may not be available through traditional schools.
Call us with any questions.
ALSO! We are now enrolling for Preschool!

While he is not our principal, Mr. Marshall works closely with FastTrack to help ensure every student who wants to is able to dual enroll in KHS classes such as Automotive Repair, Welding, or Woodworking.
This is a FastTrack value:

You can drop off donations at Fast Track and we will make sure they are delivered.
Homelessness has many faces. Our neighbors at Revilla Alternative Jr/Sr High School have started an Everyday Essentials Cupboard for students who are homeless and couch-surfing, as well as students whose families are struggling to make ends meet. The program is spear-headed by teacher Addie Roth. Staff and teachers recognize that students who are worried about basic hygiene needs or who may be teased about wearing dirty clothes are too distracted to learn. This program is an outstanding project to directly and immediately meet the needs of homeless students and students at risk of becoming homeless so that they can focus on their education.
The Everyday Essentials Cupboard collects things like:
*laundry detergent (pods are great because they are portable -- most students use the laundromat or a washer/dryer available at the school)
*stain remover sticks
*dish scrubbing sponges
*liquid hand soap
*shampoo/conditioner (full-size bottles of "nice-smelling" brands are preferred)
*toothpaste (full-size tubes are preferred)
*deodorant (full-size, for boys & girls)
*"Tampax Pearls" brand tampons (and similar compact brands, such as "U by Kotex"), especially variety packs
*Thin maxi pads (similar to "Always Radiant" brand)
*acne treatment/prevention face wash (ex. Clearasil, Clean & Clear)
The Everyday Essentials Cupboard *cannot* accept any medications. Ketchikan High School also has a Food Pantry for students who don't have access to enough food at home. Students from both high schools can access both resources.
Donations for Revilla's Everyday Essentials Cupboard can be dropped off at the school during regular hours. The Day Shelter will also always accept donations for the Everyday Essentials Cupboard (or Kayhi's Food Pantry) -- just let the staff know if you are dropping items off for students and we will transfer donations!
Please share and lets help stock up Revilla's Everyday Essentials Cupboard together!
The April picture is a little late (sorry!) Here is the Octothorp, instead.
