Practical Life Spotlight - Watering Plants
What is it?
The child uses a watering can to water the plants in the environment. The guide may include as part of this lesson testing the soil of the plants to see if it is dry and the plant needs watering.
This activity can also be connected to watering plants outdoors, potting and repotting plants, sprouting seeds, etcâŠ
Why do we do it?
Coordination of movement of the whole body.
Orientation and adaptation to the environment.
Fine motor control.
Motive for repetition and concentration.
Care of the environment.
Indirect preparation for botany.
We are so excited to start announcing our new staff here soon! One of our Toddler Lead Guides started this week and we're highly anticipating introducing them all to you. Stay tuned!
Teacher's Day is a one-day celebration, but students celebrate it every day. Thank you, teachers, for all your contribution on World Teacher's Day.
We at Guidepost Kent cannot say it enough: we are so excited for you to meet our amazing Guides and canât wait to start introducing them to you all. To our team: you are truly the best of the best. Youâve blessed our school already with your presence and that will only grow.
Only a teacher can open all our minds to their best extent. Keep up the great work!!

Sensorial Spotlight: The Pink Tower
The Pink Tower is a favorite in our Children's House (age 3-6) classroom. Children mix the 10 pink wooden cubes (differing in all three dimensions), and build them into a tower from the largest to the smallest.
This sensory work visualizes discrimination of dimensions, indirect refinement of voluntary movement, muscular education of grip, and preparation of the mathematical mind.
There is so much more beyond the Pink Tower.
Montessori Mondays:
âThe child who has never learned to work by himself, to set goals for his own acts, or to be the master of his own force of will is recognizable in the adult who lets others guide his will and feels a constant need for approval of others.â -Maria Montessori
Hi all,
Our Inaugural Family Gathering had to be postponed today due to an unforeseen positive Covid case on campus. Communication has gone out but I felt it best to communicate here as well. Weâre so sad we had to postpone but we hope to reschedule and we look forward to celebrating safely with you in the near future.

Today we celebrate Maria Montessoriâs birthday! We are so thankful for her guidance, wisdom, and passion for finding the best ways to allow children to learn, thrive and grow.
We canât wait for next year when we can celebrate her birthday with our students! In the meantime we bought flowers and ate cake together as staff.

There are many different styles of teaching, so what sets us the Montessori style apart from a traditional daycare?

When we consider how to incorporate Practical Life into our classrooms, we must first think about what are those aspects of daily life where our brains are stimulated already? What work might a 3 year old child see their guardian do and want to mimic, and how can we foster & encourage that learning, confidence and independence in our classrooms?
When you think of this quote below by Maria Montessori, what comes to mind?
We are hosting an Open House on Saturday, September 3rd, from 12-2pm! This is a great opportunity for you to come tour if you haven't already, to bring those extra family members or your little one to see our school, and to speak with our staff.
We hope we'll see you there! You can confirm your attendance at the link below.

Yesterday we welcomed our Childrenâs House Lead Guide Silvia to our Guidepost Kent family!
Our dedication to excellence:
August is when our schools observe Thrive, aka Thrive Days. This is our annual professional development event where each school comes together as a team to inspire, connect, and rejuvenate ahead of the new school year. đ» At Guidepost Kent we will observe our first Thrive days in 2023 as we're gearing up to open in Fall of 2022.
Why did we choose this name? Simply put, to thrive is to flourish and grow. What underpins this idea is the feeling we get when we are truly mastering our craft and experiencing the joy and excitement that comes with this growth. đ„ł
This year's theme is Building Towards Excellence!

Doing tours so far has been incredible. It's been amazing to meet so many wonderful families and it's exciting when they decide that our school is the right fit for them.
Our favorite moment so far has been when a family of four (each born in a different country), all took the time to find their individual flags. I love that Guidepost really prioritizes learning components such as World Geography as well as diversity in the classroom. Every child is unique, every culture is celebrated, and that's our standard of excellence here at Guidepost Montessori.
Here at Guidepost Montessori, community is prioritized. Our goal is to create and foster monthly events for current & prospective families to come and play, get to know one another & bond as parent & child. We want you to know the other parents in your child's classroom & to feel valued and appreciated as a member of our community - because you are!
We are currently collaborating on what extracurricular activities and events we'd like to create for our school. What events, sports, or activities would you like to see?
