Fourth grade learned about erosion hands on. Today they constructed river tables and watched the effects of running water and how it shaped the sediment around it.

This week's SHINE students are leading the way in sharing God's love with others. They were caught sharing God's love in various ways by working hard, helping staff members with various tasks, and helping their classmates. Praise God for their kind service!

Apple Festival 09/15/2021

Apple Festival

The Apple Festival is only a few short weeks away and we are getting ready to fry some fritters! After not having a Festival last year, we know there will be many people looking to fill their fritter cravings. We need all of the St. John family (current families, former families, church members, and friends) to sign up to work at the Festival so that we can keep up with the fritter demand. You can sign up easily at https://www.signupgenius.com/go/10c0f4ca9a928a1ffc61-apple
or call the school office at 260-347-2444. Thanks for your help and we look forward to seeing you at the Apple Festival on Oct. 2 and 3.

Our 2nd grade students want us to remember to praise God with our voices. They picked our Bible verse for the month of September. We encourage you to use this verse in your homes this month and memorize it. Isaiah 12:5 "Sing praises to the Lord, for He has done glorious things; let this be known to all the world."

Praise God from Whom all blessings flow! We give thanks to God for the start of the year. After a little time in the classroom, we came together for an opening Chapel worship service. The rest of the day was spent learning routines and rules, lunch and recess, and maybe a little academic work. Can't wait to see everyone back tomorrow for Day 2!

Last spring Mrs. Moser received a grant to start a composting program. Things are underway to get it up and running in time for the start of school. Today school board member Kurt Hayden and 8th grade graduate Lex Moser assembled the first of our compost systems. We’re excited to get the students involved and learning about composting and reduce our lunch waste.

Yesterday, the Fourth Graders visited City Hall where Mayor Handshoe talked about how local government works. She also shared some history of City Hall. She invited students into her office and talked about some of the things that fill her day as the mayor.

The students also got a tour of the dispatcher office and police department. They met Knight, the K-9 dog that works in area schools. We thank our community leaders for their time and efforts in making Kendallville a great place to live and learn!

Congratulations to these 4 St. John graduates! Last Friday they were recognized at The Lutheran Schools Partnership's Honor Recognition Service. Interestingly enough, they all started at St. John in preschool or Kindergarten and have continued through to graduation. They represent St. John as leaders in the classroom and in their extra-curricular involvement. Most of all, they are leaders in Christian conduct and witness as a fine young man and fine young ladies. God's blessings to these 4 and all of our graduates as you finish 8th grade and head into the exciting plans God has for you in high school.

In these closing days of the school year, our monthly Bible verse is Revelation 22:13. We are reminded that Jesus is the beginning and the end. We started the year with Jesus and we'll end the year with Jesus. He was with us every day of the year and will be with us every day of the summer. We encourage families to learn this verse together. May God bless the end of this year!
