We offer hands-on learning in realistic environments. Currently we have 20 students involved with the New Heights Aviation program.
New Heights Aviation is a program that works to educate students about the basics of flight and teach them other important skills rarely explore in traditional classrooms. They are studying the new AOPA curriculum which teaches students of the basics in aviation. We also have some students involved with the PR of aviation as well as a few that are putting their time into the construction of a plane.

More progress on the CTE building—even in the rain and snow!

The new CTE building for our aeronautics class is officially under construction!

Special thanks to Ken Good for coming in and helping a few of the students with the fabrication process on our glider project!

Marlo Jones is apart of the Puget Sound Antique Airplane Club. He is currently in Kenya spreading the Wallowa County aviation spirit! In the pictures shown, Marlo and his Kenyan friends are wearing our Wallowa County Fly In T shirt that student Malichi Roberts designed. PSAAC has given us great support in recent years. We hope you are having a great time Marlo!

The 2019 Winter Aviation banquet was a huge success! After listening to an engaging presentation by Pat Vulkenburg about his adventures in Alaska, we had the honor to share our progress and current projects at the banquet.
But the most exciting part of the event was the ending where NEOAF gave our very own Kana Oliver a $6000 scholarship and a $1,800 grant from the PSAAC* as a thank you for all the hard work she has put into the success of Northeast Oregon aviation.

October 3, 1931 Miss Veedol took off from Sabashiro Beach, on the northern coast of Honshu, Japan. Their destination was Seattle, Washington, 5,500 miles across the Pacific Ocean. Pilots, Pangborn and Herndon had just been on an around the world flight, they were attempting to break the record time that had recently been set by Willy Post and Harold Gatty. But, due to delays, they were unable to beat the record.

Our beautiful county from the air!

Last week, we took to the skies with the help of Tim Locke, Wup Winn, and Andy McKee. A huge thank you to these three for donating their time and fuel to show us our beautiful county from a different perspective.
It also happened to fall on the day we got a visit from State FFA Officers Dylan Westfall (Vice President) and Holly Silvey (Sentinel). We are so glad you got to be a part of our adventure!
“We get tons of amazing opportunities as state officers, like touring schools every single day. But getting to do something like this is not something that state officers have done recently… I’m sure thirty years from now when we forget about the school visits, we won’t forget flying in a small plane over Wallowa County.” -Dylan Westfall

The 2018 Wallowa County Fly-In was a huge success! The Silent and Live auctions put on by our Marketing and Communications Manager Kana Oliver made over $6,000 for the Northeast Oregon Aviation Foundation. We would like to thank all of our volunteers and everyone who came out to this years Fly-In. See you again in July!

Our Aviation class is currently working on the construction of a super goat glider. This glider build is part of a grant through TVCC (Treasure Valley Community College). Throughout this project students will use the 8-Step Building Process and become more knowledgeable about the different parts and placement of pieces.

Recently, New Heights Aviation received the first box (out of two) of parts for the Super Goat Glider. This box consisted of the tail and rudder. This is the start to a new project that we received through a grant from TVCC’s (Treasure Valley Community College) Aviation Program. In this project, the year two aviation students will be working with Michael Flemming, who is a local aviation enthusiast to build the Super Goat Glider.

Planning your summer? Be sure to mark July 14th on your calendar as the annual fly in date! We are super excited about the fly in this year and would love if you came and joined us. Enjoy dinner the night before, breakfast, planes for viewing, air shows, silent and live auctions, and other aviation-related displays!

The students performed a project that consisted of them altering sample airplanes made of balsa wood to improve their quality of flight. In this task they measured the distance that the gliders flew, as well as the amount of time that they were in the air. This taught the students about the engineering design process and specifically how to refine their design to improve it.

Our first project consisted of students building hot air balloons out of tissue paper. This taught the students about how hot air balloons function and the importance of accurate design. In this unit, the kids also studied the history of hot air balloons.
