We had some amazing community members supporting the opening of school this week! Thank you to the Calore Group for sponsoring all of our car tags! Thank you to Swifts Garage and Live Oak Church for the breakfast treats this week for our teachers/staff! It takes a village!
Another successful Meet and Greet for grades 2 & 3 today! We are so excited to start school tomorrow!
Well, maybe it is not quite that bad....but it will be long and will require a positive attitude and patience:) Here are a few reminders from our school safety team:
Angel Oak Parents/Families,
Angel Oak continues to grow every year as we welcome new students and families! As little ones exit and enter cars and new families learn how to navigate the carline, it is VERY important that everyone follows car line guidance and shows patience and proper adult behavior. Please expect delays in the morning and afternoon for the first couple of months of school as everyone gets used to the procedures. If you want to avoid the car line, we urge you to let your child ride the school bus. School bus routes and times are being looked at again to shorten times and provide a quality alternative to car line.
The most important message for the car line is: If everyone follows the procedures, the car line runs smoothly. If even one or two cars do not, it slows down everything and safety becomes an issue.
Reminders:
There is only one entrance to the car line (which is PAST the school coming from Main road onto Chisolm to the left). THE CAR RIDER LINE IS TWO LANES AT ALL TIMES until you circle around to the front of the school and merge. Please DO NOT try to drop your child off in front of the school on Chisolm Rd. or the bus loop. This is a safety issue and will not be allowed.
Merging is the biggest issue we have in the car rider line. Signs are posted at the end of the loop to tell you to merge. We will also have staff in the line (when they are available) to assist with this, however, we cannot guarantee this extra support every day. Merging is very simple in a car rider line. It should be back and forth (meaning one car from lane 1 go and then one car from lane 2 right after that and so on). You letting one car in will not cause your child to be late. Everyone is in line for the same reason and that’s to get your child safely to school. If you are a car in lane 2 merging over PLEASE DO NOT force your way into the line which may cause an accident. This whole process only works if we utilize BOTH lanes around the loop and people let others over one vehicle at a time. Do not beep your horns, yell or show disrespect to each other or staff members: remember, your children are watching and you are their most important role model. Smoking and loud music are also not allowed.
If you plan to park for any reason, you can stay in the left hand car line lane, and park once the lane wraps around to enter the grass lot areas. You cannot park in the bus loop as that is limited staff parking and you will block the buses. If you use the church lot across the street, you must walk your child across the street as there is no crosswalk or crossing guard. Please cross through the area with the cones and use the crosswalk once in the loop area. Do not park in ANY of the grassy areas in front of the school next to Chisolm Road or you will receive a ticket or be towed. This is a safety issue for cars coming down Chisolm Road and we must follow proper procedure.
Once you pull up to the cones for your child to exit the car in the morning, please make sure they are ready to leave the car immediately (seats unbuckled, bookbags closed, shoes on, water bottles in hand, etc.). Say a quick goodbye and we will help take care of the rest:) Trust us, we will get your child to where they need to be…we have people ready to do this with smiles each morning inside of the building:) Thank you, in advance, for helping them build independence:)
When you pull into the car line in the afternoon to pick up your child, please make sure your car tag is visible and displayed on your front mirror. Anyone without a car tag must park your car in an approved area, enter the building and show ID to pick up a child (no exceptions). Teachers/Staff are NOT allowed to fasten safety seats or harnesses. There are stops in front of the line that you can navigate to to do this as needed. Just ask a staff member to point you to them.
Due to our increasing number of students, limited staffing in the afternoon, and numerous safety concerns, we will not be offering a walk up option to pick up students at this time. The only walk ups that are approved are those that live within walking distance of the school and for students that have special needs services that require this type of pick up.
We know this is a lot of information. We appreciate your reading through all of it and being committed to following all procedures to make it successful. And, as always, if the car line causes you or your child stress, you are always encouraged to let your child ride the bus:)
It is going to be an awesome school year! Thanks for helping us to keep everyone safe.
Thank you,
Principal Condon and the AOE Safety Team
