Small Wonders: Insects in Focus
February 7th โ€“ March 25th, 2022

th, 2โ€“5 pm

In the air, water, and even under foot, insects inhabit every domain of our daily lives, performing essential functions that balance our fragile ecosystem on earth. By using
cutting-edge technology and custom methods, artist Bob Sober created โ€œSmall Wonders: Insects in Focusโ€, an exhibition of breathtaking beauty that allows viewers to see this hidden world like theyโ€™ve never seen it before. Small Wonders aims to inspire, in an artistic way, our natural curiosity to understand the form, function, and diversity of nature. The exhibition opens February 7th, at San Jacinto College South Campus Gallery.
Join us this Thursday, January 27th from 3-5 pm for the closing reception of the 2021 Students Showcase and a zine-making workshop with ZineFest Houston

Letโ€™s talk about the demographics of US museum staff and leadership. ๐Ÿ“ฃ

In 2018 the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation, in collaboration with partnering institutions, released a demographic survey of US museum staff and leadership. Although the numbers showed increased diversity between 2014 and 2018, there is still a long way to go. The positions that showed the most improvement, such as guards, educators, and technicians, were also the first positions to be furloughed or terminated as a result of COVID-19. As we all rebuild, we must understand that without a strong foundation, institutions will not stand.

Born and raised in Manila, artist and community organizer has called Houston home since 2004. As a first-generation immigrant, Matt creates work with elements of painting, drawing, sculpture, photography, and printmaking to explore social issues like erasure, colorism, and colonial mentality. Join us Tuesday evening for a webcast with Matt and fellow artists .art and .art.tan as they share insights on recent months and current work and research. The conversation begins at 7:30 p.m. Central on June 16 via 's YouTube Live and Facebook Live.
