HCC Central College Interim President Dr. Edmund “Butch” Herod and Jesse Sievers, WSB director of Talent Acquisition, took part in a ceremonial agreement to launch the HCC/WSB CAD (Computer-Aided Design) Technician Apprenticeship Program. Under the program, WSB will support apprentices to earn their Associate of Science Degree in Drafting/Design from HCC.

The partnership will offer HCC students the opportunity to use CAD software to create technical drawings and plans for products in the construction, manufacturing and engineering industries. Students will also develop the ability to prepare, read, and understand construction plans and technical documents, with a strong understanding of Autodesk Civil 3D.

“HCC is dedicated to building the workforce of tomorrow,” Herod said. “The apprenticeship program is critical to ensuring we’re able to support the need for a skilled workforce through collaboration and industry support. Partnering with WSB for the CAD Technician apprenticeship program naturally aligns with our mission to serve our communities and improve lives one student at a time.”

Based out of Minneapolis, Minn., WSB is a design and consulting firm specializing in engineering, community planning, environmental, and construction services; offering services in more than 50 complementary areas across the nation.

What a day was had by all during the Houston Community College 2024 Commencement Ceremony. The journey for these graduates in obtaining their associate's degree or continuing education certificate was worth the sacrifices they made. Some came from foreign lands as immigrants to the United States and were first generation graduates. Some grew up in underserved communities here in Houston and other parts of Texas and the country. Some were young. Some were older. Regardless of where their education journey started, they persevered and accomplished their goal. We celebrate this class and look forward to the next graduation where HCC Central students will be able don their caps and gowns and walk across the stage. Congratulations Graduates!!!
