Keller PTA

The Keller PTA page will share information and reminders for students, staff and parents. We will also ask for volunteer help when needed.

[05/08/15]   For teacher appreciation week PTA provided donuts on Monday, Portillo's lunch on Wednesday and parfaits with fresh fruit this morning. The staff loved everything and truly enjoyed their lunch on Wednesday.
Thank you to our wonder staff. We appreciate all you do for our children.

[04/11/15]   Garcia Family Donation Information As you may know, our friend Katy Mabry Garcia's family home had a fire on Easter Sunday afternoon. The house needs significant repairs that will take several months. Having to deal with this disruption has been very traumatic for their children Waldo Jr. and Katherine and, of course, very stressful for Katy and Waldo. Katy has touched SO many people in the Schaumburg / Hoffman Estates area. She is actively involved in the District 54 Foundation and Conant High School Booster Club, among many other groups in the community. Over the years Katy has given countless hours of her time, in addition to the extraordinarily generous donations, personally and from her business, Riccardo’s Ristorante. So many of us want to GIVE BACK to this wonderful family, and here’s how: An account has been set up at BMO Harris Bank, where donations can be made in one of two ways. 1) Write a check made out to “Katherine and/or Waldo Garcia,” and mail it to any BMO Harris Bank. If you need the address of one use the below: BMO Harris Bank Katherine and/or Waldo Garcia c/o Garcia Family Benefit Account 590 S. Roselle Rd Schaumburg, IL 60193 OR... 2) Stop in at any BMO Harris Bank to make an in person donation. Just ask the teller to deposit your donation in the “Katherine and/or Waldo Garcia / Garcia Family Benefit Account”. This account has been set up in response to the many people asking how they might be able to help. This is strictly a personal donation to our friend; it is not tax deductible. No amount is too small, it will add up! Katy and her family are overwhelmed with the well wishes and prayers pouring in. Katy cannot answer all the emails and texts, but wants each of you to know that she is so very grateful! In the meantime, keep the prayers and well wishes coming. Let us allow the Garcia family to reap as they have sown for so many years. Thank you!

We know you are wondering if there will be school tomorrow. The National Weather Service has said the blizzard will end at midnight. We are hoping that roads will be cleared by morning so we can have school. However we will continue to monitor the weather and road conditions. A decision will be made by 6 a.m. if we need to close.

[01/23/15]   From Mrs. Wilson:
We are very excited to share that our wonderful art teacher, Alex Polanco, was nominated as teacher of the month from WGN TV. WGN highlights a teacher each month that has made a positive impact on students. Nominations are made by students who feel their teacher have made a difference in their lives. Each application is judged on the educational achievements the teacher has brought to the classroom, the contributions they have made to the community, and for their innovative teaching techniques. Stephanie K. is an 8th grade student at Keller that nominated Mr. Polanco. Both Stephanie and Alex will be highlighted on WGN news on January 28th at 9 PM. The segment will also be shown on January 29th around noon. Several of Mr. Polanco’s 5th period students will also be included during the broadcast.

[08/27/14]   Keller PTA would like to welcome back all of our returning 8th graders today. Hope you have a wonderful first day!

[08/26/14]   Keller PTA would like to wish our in coming 7th graders a wonderful first day of school! Good luck to each of you!

Today, my son Matthew took the ice bucket challenge and nominated me. What Matthew didn't know was that my Great Grandmother, his Great Great Grandmother had ALS and passed away when I was a young girl. I remember going grocery shopping with my Grandma and Great Grandma every Sunday. I remember when Grandma and I had to do the shopping without her, I remember when she could no longer get out of bed and I remember her being in the hospital. I've watched all of the celebrities and every day people post their ice bucket challenges and I've thought of my Grandma Costello each and every time.
Once nominated, I knew instantly that I would accept the challenge and make a donation to ALS in our families name. But than I took it a step further....
Tonight I will talk to my kids about their Great Great Grandma Phyllis, and all of my memories of her. In honor and memory of Grandma Phyllis.... the ice bucket challenge AND my nominations!

I also would like to challenge each and every one of you to talk to your kids or educate yourself on ALS.
Thank you Matthew for lighting the fire under Mama today!

[06/02/14]   I would like to personally thank all of our Keller families that donated eye glasses to the collection for the Lion's Club. As a district, we collected over 115 pairs of glasses. I am absolutely thrilled with that number and hope next year we can beat it! Thank you again!

Happy Teacher Appreciation Week to our wonderful staff at Keller! 91 pinwheel flowers, each with a staff members name!

[05/05/14]   Teacher Appreciation week starts tomorrow! Please encourage your kids to say thank you to their teachers! A hand written note goes a long way to show our appreciation!

[04/21/14]   Parents! We need some suggestions! We are trying to come up with some ideas for Teacher Appreciation Week! We have a surprise planned for the staff and also a lunch from PTA. We are looking for something the students can do, something free or very very minimal cost, for their teachers. Elementary school was a lot easier in this department, the little ones love to draw pictures and make cards etc..... what can you suggest that we plan for our 7th and 8th graders to do for our teachers? Thank you!!!!
