As a thank you to all current students and parents for continuing lessons during the pandemic, your December invoice will include a discount for a FREE lesson! Don't owe in December? No worries - I've added a free lesson to your account so you have an extra session covered.
From the bottom of my heart I thank each and every family for making the transition to virtual (or starting lessons virtually!). It has brought me so much joy through the pandemic to be able to stay connection and making music with the kids.
Happy Halloween!!!
Now THAT is scary! Happy Halloween! 🎃👻
Good question!
Parents of current students: We will not have lessons on July 3rd and 6th.
Ms. Heather has been teaching online without a break since the shutdown and will be taking some time to recharge!
We will be back to usual schedule on July 10!
Love these! 🎶

One last April fools...
Teaching music online has been fun, but not without its bumps!
What’s the weirdest thing that has happened on Zoom to you?

Missing my Music with Me class through Henrico County Recreation & Parks. Here is a fun playlist that you can do with your babies at home! A bed sheet can be a parachute, two wooden spoons can be rhythm sticks, easter eggs with beans in them can be egg shakers!
Good afternoon parents & students!
Starting tomorrow, Monday 3/23, I will be offering online lessons through Zoom for current or former students only. I will be working on a plan to accept new students in an online format - but I'm not there yet. If you would be a new remote student feel free to send me a message and we can talk out details!
As we embark on this new way of life I want to be thoughtful about the path forward. Online and remote instruction is nothing new to me, as a matter of fact it's how I make the bulk of my income at VCU and the IMB; however, providing K-12 students with one on one instruction is a different kind of teaching that requires personal attention to details that I am trying to figure out how to navigate in a remote setting.
So, here's how we are going to do this. If you want to do lessons through Zoom please message me for complete instructions on how that will work. For this week we are going to try to get in at least half of a lesson - 15 minutes. Accounts will only be charged for time that I am actually working with the student - so for example if the connection fails or I'm having a hard time keeping your student's attention I will pause and you will only be charged for the time that we use. It may be such that younger kids (elementary) can only do 15 minutes at a time - that's ok! As we continue our journey we can determine if it's better to do 2 - 15 minute lessons a week or continue with the current 30 minute lesson format. I want whatever is best for the kids and am willing to work on that.
Finally, if your don't think that your child would benefit from online instruction that's fine! We don't HAVE to do music lessons, as a matter of fact we don't HAVE to do much of anything right now except stop the spread of COVID-19 and take care of one another (from at least 6 ft away). Oh, and wash our hands.
I look forward to seeing and hearing your wonderful music again soon - and you never know where I'll be teaching from on Zoom!!! :-D
For anyone who missed elementary music today - or will miss my Music with Me class tomorrow through Henrico County Recreation & Parks - here is a playlist that includes some Irish tunes. You can fill Easter eggs with beans or rice for egg shakers to dance with, or use mom's fancy scarf, and dance your heart out before it's time for bed!
It's a beautiful day to practice your scales!!!

Parents and Students,
After giving it some thought I wanted to offer something to help your kids get motivated to practice over the next two weeeks - so here is my solution.
Starting today, parents can record students playing (audio or video file is fine) and email it to me at [email protected]. I will listen and send a critique and tips for improvement back to you to share with your child. I will do this free of charge for any student who wants feedback on their playing (existing customer or not) for FREE through 3/22. Video files should focus on hands on the instrument so that I can give feedback on technique; the better the audio quality the better the feedback so be sure to listen to it before sending it! Please give me time to listen and respond, as I have no idea what kind of response I will get from this.
Starting on 3/23, assuming that coronavirus is not spreading and everyone is still healthy, I will begin offering lessons to existing customers in their home or mine at regular lesson rates for anyone who is healthy and interested.
Message me with any questions that you may have, and I pray that everyone stays safe and healthy. ❤🎶
UPDATE:
The Virginia Conference of the United Methodist Church has decided to close all United Methodist churches through March 22nd. This means that all music lessons are canceled until then. I will keep you updated with any changes in the coming days and I pray that everyone stays healthy and safe.
~Dr. Heather
The beauty of being a customer of a locally owned business that offers flexible scheduling is that you can cancel when you need to - no questions asked and no fees or penalties!
I know that a lot of people are canceling events and gatherings due to the COVID-19 outbreak. I intend to continue to teach as long as it is safe to do so and the church is accessible; however, if your child becomes sick or you need to cancel for any reason you may do so when you receive your appointment reminder. This is not a new policy - I'm just reminding you that when it comes to music lessons and illness you shouldn't stress. I will be happily waiting when you are well enough to return, and so will the credits that you paid for!
That said, there will be no lessons the week of April 6-11 due to spring break - but that was already planned!
