⎮ On US Independence Day, we honor the 🇫🇷🇺🇸 friendship that began during the Revolution, was sealed when the two nations established diplomatic relations in 1778 and continues to this day.
Pictured below is the book in 's hand which is inscribed with JULY IV MDCCLXXVI (July 4, 1776 in Roman numerals). The was given by the French to the American people during Reconstruction after the Civil War: a reminder to keep striving towards common ideals of universal equality and freedom.
We hold tight to these values today and celebrate the close ties between France and the US!

La Chandeleur: A French Tradition for Good Fortune
La Chandeleur, also known as Candlemas, is a traditional holiday celebrated on February 2nd in France. This day marks the mid-point between the winter solstice and spring equinox and is celebrated with a number of customs and rituals, many of which are centered around food.
One of the most well-known traditions of la Chandeleur is the making and eating of crêpes. Crêpes are traditionally made on this day and are believed to bring good luck and prosperity in the year to come. It is said that if you hold a coin in one hand while flipping the crêpe with the other, you will attract even more wealth and success.
In addition to crêpes, la Chandeleur is also associated with other delicious desserts such as crêpes Suzette and beignets. These treats are enjoyed with family and friends, often accompanied by cider!
Beyond the food, la Chandeleur also holds religious significance for many French people. The holiday is traditionally a time for Christians to reflect on the Presentation of Jesus in the Temple, as described in the Bible. The event is marked by the lighting of candles, hence the name "Candlemas," and is celebrated with religious ceremonies and masses.
Despite its religious origins, la Chandeleur is primarily celebrated as a secular holiday today. However, the tradition of making and eating crêpes has remained a beloved and central part of the holiday. Whether you are looking to bring good luck, celebrate the coming of spring, or simply enjoy some delicious food, la Chandeleur is a wonderful time to come together with friends and family.
La Chandeleur is a unique and important part of French culture that continues to be celebrated to this day. Whether you are a Francophile or you simply enjoy good food and good company, this holiday is the perfect excuse to gather with loved ones, make some crêpes, and raise a glass to the coming of spring.

People often ask me if there’s a large selection of non-dairy milk in France. While you won’t find as many varieties as in the U.S. (and no non-dairy creamer), it’s become more and more popular. This photo is from Biocoop, which is a specialty health food store that you’ll find all over France. Even in regular grocery stores, you’ll be able to find nut milks. Health food stores have a more extensive selection though.
