Since June 2021, numerous community-based organizations have reached out to CCSD with recommendations for programs to be funded under the American Rescue Plan (ESSER III) program. Most of the recommendations were submitted to CCSD through an online portal where interested organizations described their programs and intended outcomes of a CCSD partnership for addressing learning loss due to COVID-19. The proposals have been reviewed by an ad-hoc committee appointed by the Board and by a CCSD staff member. The proposals vary in format as some were submitted using a CCSD-provided template and others submitted proposals in an original design. The links below provide access to each of the proposals as submitted by the CBO as well as a two-page summary of each proposal prepared by CCSD staff.

Applications open for Public Safety Student Leadership and Intern Program
Charleston, SC – Charleston County School District (CCSD) is partnering with Charleston County’s Public Safety Directorate to offer a Department of Public Safety Student Leadership and Intern Program.
High school juniors can apply now. Students will be trained to work in the Emergency Medical Services Department or the Consolidated
9-1-1 Dispatch Center.
“Charleston County Government has been one of our stalwart partners, and we are very excited to launch this transformative, public service-focused initiative,” said Rich Gordon, Executive Director of Career and Technology Education. “Our students will receive a paid, hands-on training experience in the rewarding career field of public safety while simultaneously earning high school credits and industry-recognized certifications.”
The internship is only offered to CCSD juniors; they will be paid $13.75 per hour. The four-to-six-week summer program provides career readiness training in addition to industry-recognized certifications and credentials. The program will begin in June and include some weekends during the school year. Signed parental or guardian approval is required for students to participate.
Applications and qualifications can be found here.
“We want to encourage Charleston County students to apply for this program,” said Deputy County Administrator of Public Safety Eric Watson.
“The goal is to empower local students to become future leaders within Charleston County Government, and those who are successful can land a good paying job with great benefits.”
For information about this internship, visit the Charleston County website at www.charlestoncounty.org, or contact the CCSD Division of Strategy and Communication at (843) 937-6603.
