Our Family Fun Night was, well, so much FUN! Families enjoyed dinner together before the grown ups headed up to the gym for some life size Candyland and trivia. At The Goddard School - Goodyear our teachers love reading to children of all ages because they know that it has immense benefits, including improving visual, cognitive, language and social-emotional development.

It’s never too early or too late to start — here are some ways to read with your child children at every age!

📖 Choose durable books for infants. Touching, holding and mouthing are all part of their learning process!
📖 Make it interactive with toddlers. Point out pictures, ask questions like, “can you find the sun?” or “how do you think they feel?” and bring the story to life with sound effects.
📖 Ask your preschooler to choose the books. This supports their self-expression and decision-making skills.
📖 Pick stories that have rhymes and repeat the rhyming words together with your pre-k or kindergartner. This helps them with letter-sound recognition as they get ready to learn to read on their own.

Welcome to the 2023-2024 School Year!! We had a great day welcoming continuing and new families to our Goddard community. We look forward to all of the growth and memories yet to be made as we kick off another year of fun and learning.

This summer our school families rallied together to support our greater community with generous donations to the Agua Fria Food and Clothing Bank. We collected so much food and so many toiletries the hallway was at least three feet more narrow! Unless you saw it in person, it’s hard to capture the volume of donations. Special thanks to Goddard parents, Tom and Vanessa Malloy, and The Malloy Group, for issuing a challenge to other families to match their donations and to the Smith family who led the way in meeting this goal. The volunteers who came to pick up the food shared that donations to the bank have been down this summer, and our families’ generosity will make a huge impact.

We live by routines at The Goddard School - Goodyear! From a familiar daily schedule to count-down warnings before we transition to a new activity, routines are key for your child’s success throughout the day. Try some of these easy routine suggestions at home to make back-to-school time a breeze!

Last week we had a blast studying space! We painted moon rocks, launched rockets, read great books, and enjoyed dressing up like astronauts, aliens, and other out-of-this-world characters. 👨‍🚀🪐

Our STEAM through History took us to the 20th Century this week and we had a blast! We got creative for dress-up day, played some classic games, had a glow in the dark party, and learned about different forms of technology. We also enjoyed a visit from our friends from the Wildlife World Zoo.

It's been a busy (and FUN!) few weeks at The Goddard School as we continued our STEAM through History with visits to Ancient Egypt, Medieval Times, and Colonial America. Take your summer to the next level with these easy hacks!

• If you’re little one isn’t a fan of sunscreen, make it a game and paint it on with a make-up brush!
• If beach days are in your future, keep the sand there using talc-free baby powder. It will wipe off easily.
• Sticky popsicles are a child’s must-have in warm weather. Prevent a mess using cupcake liners to catch any drips.
• No bathroom for miles? No problem! Bring a training potty with you for road trips. Stick a disposable diaper in the potty for even easier clean up.

This week our STEAM through History takes us to Ancient Greece and today we had our first character visit of the season.... Medusa! Our child-friendly retelling of Greek mythology focused on how Medusa was turned into a monster with a hair full of snakes due to her vanity and that looking at her would turn you to stone. Students pretended to be frozen, learned new words like "reflection", and enjoyed a gummy snake as a treat after lunch. 🐍

Our STEAM through History took us to the Ice Age this week! We discovered animals frozen in ice, created works of art, read a great book called "Ice Boy" by David Ezra Stein, enjoyed a treat of shaved ice, and more. Students also got to take home their very own identical cousin of Lettuce the Traveling Triceratops. We are excited to see all the adventures still in store for this summer of fun and learning!

Our Summer 2023 STEAM through History is off to an amazing start! This week we visit the Mesozoic Era which, no surprise, is a fan favorite with our students as we learn about dinosaurs. Today was our first Wednesday Water Day of the season and students loved running through the sprinklers. Here's to a great summer of fun and learning! 🦕💦☀️

It’s National Creativity Day! At The Goddard School - Goodyear one of our favorite books that teaches children about harnessing their creativity is Beautiful Oops by Barney Saltzberg. This book depicts artistic “mistakes” that have been transformed into something new and wonderful. We use this book to teach children that mistakes are opportunities, not failures.

We hope all of our Goddard moms, grandmas, aunts, and other special caregivers in our students' lives had an amazing Mother's Day! Today we celebrated with some muffins and photo booth fun. 🤩😍💛

We wrapped up Teacher Appreciation Week with a trip to the movies! Our faculty and their guests laughed (and maybe cried) while enjoying Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 in a private theater at Harkins Estrella Falls. Thank you, Goddard families, for showering our faculty with love this past week. We are blessed by our teachers!! 🍿💛

Our First Class Faculty got a special surprise on Friday when one of our school owner's Ms. Kimberly stopped by in her uniform from her other career as a flight attendant to pass out amenity bags donated by United. The students were super excited to see her as well!
