We are excited to share Dr. Patrick Bixby received the 2023 IHR Book award for his new title “License to Travel: A Cultural History of the passport. The award committee comments on his novel include:

“Who are we, and where are we allowed to wander, to seek refuge, or to simply be? In License to Travel, Patrick Bixby investigates the ways passports and the regimes that create them seek to answer those questions. Ranging broadly through time and space, Bixby explores archives, works of literature, films, and even internet myths in this highly engaging work that insists we contemplate how passports, those small but powerful books, generate and foreclose possibilities.”

Kudos to Dr. Bixby on this amazing achievement!
