At last week’s meeting, the WESD Governing Board recognized the Materials and Management/Warehouse Department, the WESD Welcome and Registration Center, WESD Printing Services and the Purchasing Department for their outstanding work over the last year!
The Materials Management/Warehouse Department is the central receiving area for all materials purchased by the District. They ensure that all schools receive the supplies that they need while providing excellent customer services.
The Welcome and Registration Center team works diligently to support student registration, records and attendance. To better serve the community, they have implemented an online registration system and worked to simplify records management for all schools. They are also responsible for uploading student data to the Arizona Department of Education Student Information System to ensure accurate reporting and adequate funding.
WESD Printing Services was instrumental last school year in getting instructional packets for students to continue their learning during the initial school closures. Traditionally, they have provided printing services for WESD schools and the assessments department as needed, but have recently expanded their offerings to include innovative items such as banners, floor stickers and masks.
The Purchasing Department ensures that the necessary items are procured, delivered and properly tracked. The continue to process bids and requests for proposals to ensure that the WESD is compliant with state and procurement laws and that all orders are processed, received and ready for delivery. In addition, they manage incoming and outgoing mail.

Sunset Elementary was looking for a fun way to bring students together during this challenging time and one of their students suggested a school-wide mask decorating contest. More than 75 students submitted masks designs and the two winning designs, selected by the student council, were brought to life, thanks to WESD Printing Services! Congrats to sixth grader Lejla H., and third grader Victoria R., who created two awesome, custom masks!
There’s so much Abraham Lincoln Traditional School pride along Peoria Avenue! Thanks to the efforts of the ALTS community, including WESD painters and the WESD Printing Services, the red, white, and blue stand out for all to see. Happy Friday, ! Today, we would like to begin our February Employee of the Month recognitions by congratulating Damon Alire, the bindery and shipping clerk in the WESD Printing Services Department. Every day, Damon arrives at work with a great work ethic, amazing customer service skills and a positive attitude to tackle any challenges. Damon’s colleagues admire him because he is always ready to learn. This year, Printing Services acquired a new division of printing, DTG or Direct-to-Garment printing. During this time of change, Damon was always ready to take on new tasks and learn how to maintain and service the productivity of the new machine. He has shown a commitment to customer service by embracing new products. As a self-starter, Damon shows his dedication by conducting research and sharing new information with the team. He also attends conferences and conventions to learn more about other products and services available for printing needs. His eagerness to produce quality products for teachers, students and staff is evident in the work that he does. Damon’s coworkers describe him as funny, hardworking and dedicated.
