One of our favorite aspects of the AEF Arizona Teacher of the Year program is seeing how these incredible educators go on to make an impact far and wide. Recently, Kareem Neal and Jason Catanese represented at the School Connect Summit. This weekend, Nancy O'Halloran Quinlan, Cheesman, and Vargas led sessions at the Space Exploration Educators Conference at Johnson Space Center.
When local schools have the support and investment of local community members, we can reach every child. Great to see Sharon Welch Living Streams Church and Alhambra Elementary School District Superintendent Dr. Maes and Alhambra team

Empowering schools to building a bridge between the school and local partners We call ourselves School Connect.

A small group banded together to “blow wind into the sails” of this life-changing movement to love schools. We are passionate about our next generation flourishing in our city and we believe that the faith community is an important partner in this process. We believe collaboration is critical to that flourishing and we want to help networking relationships happen.

School Connect is pleased to honor Tyler K. Lowe and Vulcan Materials with the Bridge Builders Award. For the last 5 years,
Vulcan Materials has proven to be a consistent and thoughtful partner for the Laveen Elementary School District! They began their relationship by sponsoring Chief Science Officers at each Laveen school and providing STEM mini-grants and hot spots to students in need.

As a result, Vulcan Materials now provides mentoring to Chief Science Officers and is inspiring their business across the country to build powerful partnerships with local schools.

School Connect is proud to honor Debbie Kovesdy and GenTech with the Community Impact Award. GenTech is a local company that had its origins in the technology classrooms of Debbie Kovesdy.
Debbie saw the opportunity to train and empower students to not only understand and apply technology but to help their peers and teachers learn as well. As a result, high school and college students provide a full-service tech repair counter and coding, robotics, and computer science camps for kids as well.
GenTech's employees are stakeholders in the company learning marketing, contracts, profit/loss analysis, and how to build and sustain the business. We are thrilled to award Chief Executive Officer, Debbie Kovesdy and her GenTech team with this acknowledgment of their significant impact on students and the community!

School Connect is proud to honor Pastor Curt McReynolds and Christ's Church of the Valley (CCV) with the Hope Builders Award! Curt's wife is a teacher at Pickett Elementary and his children attend Queen Creek schools, so it was important to Curt that their local schools knew they were a top priority for CCV!
This began a monthly opportunity for the church to love on their local schools. From meals and gift cards for teachers to coffee trucks, education awards, or even Chromebooks, Curt Reynolds and CCV have found constant ways to show up and say, "We are in this together!" Principal Sherry Towns of Faith Mather Sossaman Elementary School describes Curt and his team as caring, thoughtful, generous, and invested in the school and the community.
Principal Towns says that in the 10 years that she has been in Queen Creek, this is the best partnership she has ever experienced!

School Connect is honored to present the Community Spotlight Award to Kristi Tate and Madison Rock from the Center for the Future of Arizona!
The Center for the Future of Arizona brings the people of Arizona together to create a stronger and brighter future for our state. By listening to what matters to Arizonan's, they bring critical issues to public attention and work with communities and leaders to solve public problems.
One of their education initiatives helps students participate in the democratic process in their schools through a program called School Participatory Budgeting (SPB). Through this program, students learn democracy by doing. They join steering committees on their campus, develop project proposals for their school, and vote to fund improvement projects that build stronger school communities.
Because of leaders like Kristi Tate and Madison Rock, students throughout Arizona are discovering the power of participating in democracy in their school communities! Congratulations to the Center for the Future of Arizona!

On today's episode, we talk about specific difficulties that teachers and students are facing in the aftermath of remote learning and the present stressors from COVID, political pressure and the never-before-seen expectations that are bearing down educators.
