Darren is the national marine program manager of NOAA’s National Weather Service (NWS). Darren has been with NOAA since 1984 and worked in operational oceanography and meteorology for over 34 years before moving to the NWS over four years ago. He is now responsible for improving coastal, offshore and high seas forecast products and services. In this role he routinely engages with marine communities.

On Thanksgiving Day 2019, Carter was struck by a 36-foot boat while snorkeling on the Breakers Reef. By improving the visibility of diver-down devices and reducing boat speeds in close proximity to the beach, he hopes to make the oceans a safer place for humans and marine life.
