2022 Incentive Grantee Esther Epanya M., UNT System College of Pharmacy, Albertsons, Texas A&M College of Pharmacy
"I am excited to know why more prescribers are not referring their patients to community #pharmacies for the administration of long-acting injectable antipsychotics and finding ways to bridge any barriers. I am also excited to share this grant with some of our respondents as a token of appreciation for participating in this survey, thereby helping to strengthen prescriber-pharmacist bonds, and improving patient outcomes."

Dr. Kelvan Lawrence, Jr. UNTHSC Alumni , is a Clinical Pharmacist in Texas.

Honoring , he has been inspired by many African American pharmacy educators and leaders, including Drs. George, Anderson, Martin and Obi, all who have impacted his growth and career in pharmacy.

“Their amazing professional careers and ability to excel in their positions will pave the way for more individuals within our race to pursue these top roles within pharmacy.”

“I am inspired by my heritage when I see the diversity and amount of African American healthcare professionals that I interact with daily. There was a time when African Americans were not even allowed to attend school. Now we live in a time where the African American heritage is within all professions and able to practice at the highest level.”

This week, we are highlighting the Competition Chairs. Their purpose is to prepare and support patient care competitions and TPA-ASP Cup. Competition Chairs work with TPA-ASP student co-directors to send out competition cases to chapters. For the TPA-ASP Cup, they track points and communicate SPARx updates in each PharmD program.

We are honoring Black History Month by sharing inspiration from some of our college colleagues.

Dr. Adenike Atanda makes an impact on our student pharmacists, patients at HSC Health, colleagues and PGY2 residents in her daily work as a mentor, assistant professor, program director and clinical pharmacist.

“Being of African heritage, I am inspired by the resilience, pride and ingenuity of black people in the continent and diaspora,” Dr. Atanda said.

She is also inspired by pioneers like Dr. Ameyo Stella Adadevoh, a Nigerian physician, who was instrumental in curbing the spread of the Ebola virus in Nigeria by keeping the index patient under quarantine, despite external pressure. “Her bravery, determination and dedication to public health is inspiring and will be memorable for many years to come.”
