Mission: Joy Film Available On-Demand March 18-20 - SustainFloyd

The International Day of Happiness is this Sunday, and our friends at SustainFloyd are making Mission:JOY available for you to watch on-demand this weekend.

The film is an enlightening, peek-behind-the curtain, 90-minute documentary built around an historic 5-day meeting between two of the world’s most consequential spiritual leaders – His Holiness the Dalai Lama and Archbishop Desmond Tutu. Born a world apart, both Nobel Laureates, the two men, one a Buddhist the other Christian, met here to celebrate their improbable friendship and share their hard-won wisdom about a wide range of issues from love, karma, guilt, and forgiveness to joy, faith, meditation and reincarnation.

If you missed it when we screened it through the Film Club in our online community, register now to watch the film for free this weekend only by clicking on the link below...

"Every minute someone leaves this world behind.
We're all in "the queue" without knowing it.
We will never know how many people are ahead of us.
We can't move to the bottom of the row.
We can't get out of line.
We can't avoid the queue.
So while we wait in line.
Make the moments count!
Make priorities.
Make the time.
Let your qualities be known.
Make people feel important.
Make your voice heard.
Make big things out of small things.
Make someone smile.
Make the change.
Make love.
Make Peace.
Get it together.
Make sure you tell your people you love them.
Make sure you have no regrets.
Make sure you're ready.
Very true.
Live life and let live, enjoy, be grateful,
don't waste time arguing,
fighting in doing bad things life is short,
live it,
be humble,
love yourself and be happy with what you have.
Have an awesome life." -

As a fiercely secular organization, we are influenced and informed by a lot of people. Few more so than Nobel Peace Prize nominee Thich Nhat Hanh, who passed away yesterday. We are so grateful for his teachings and his actions, but really mostly for his calm, purposeful presence. All his teachings were expressed simply by that alone.

This workshop will focus on what we tell ourselves about the holidays, mindfulness, and writing. The workshop encourages participants use mindfulness to enrich their meditative and writing practices, as well as awakened experiences of the holidays, by diving into the thoughts and habits of mind that help and hinder self-compassion.

Save the Date: December 16-18 On Demand Viewing of Film: The Divided Brain - SustainFloyd

Our friends at SustainFloyd are offering a free online showing of the documentary, The Divided Brain on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday this week only.

This is a mind-altering odyssey about one man’s quest to prove a growing imbalance in our brains, and to help us understand how this makes us increasingly unable to grapple with critical economic, environmental and social issues; ones that shape our very future as a species.

The Divided Brain follows Dr. Iain McGilchrist on a journey of discovery as he travels to meet his champions and critics and defends his vision on the implications of his theory. Dr. McGilchrist is a soft-spoken British psychiatrist and neuroscientist who may have uncovered an insidious problem with the way our brains function. He believes that one half of our brain–the left hemisphere–is slowly taking power, and that we in the Western world are simultaneously feeding its ambitions. This half of the brain is very proficient at creating technologies, procedures and systems, but it cannot understand the implications of these on the people and the world around it.
