Have you tried power walking? While it may seem like a simple exercise, it can provide an effective workout for people at a variety of fitness levels.
In addition to helping people lose weight and reduce their risk for diabetes, power walking has also been shown to reduce a person's risk for high blood pressure and cholesterol and even to be good for your bones!

A key factor and precursor to Type 2 Diabetes is Insulin Resistance, often associated with obesity, high blood pressure, high LDL, "bad" cholesterol, and low HDL, "good" cholesterol. Unfortunately, people cannot tell if they are living with insulin resistance based on how they feel. If your doctor observes several of the conditions listed above, they may encourage you to get a blood sugar level test. Next week, we'll be back with more information about the treatment and prevention of insulin resistance.
