Woodson High School Celebrates Golden Anniversary

Woodson High School will continue the celebration of its 50th anniversary year with a plaque dedication ceremony and open house on Saturday, April 13, from 1 to 3 p.m. The event is open to all members of the Woodson community, including past, present, and future students and staff members. Woodson High School is a Fairfax County public school.

The event will include speeches by Woodson students about their memories from each of the school’s five decades. Woodson’s alumni chorus will perform. Guests are welcome to tour the recently renovated school, pick up a souvenir item—including a DVD retrospective—and catch up with friends and fellow alumni.

Football player, Andy Heck #88 is the only athlete to have his jersey number retired. Andy is currently the offensive coordinator for the Jacksonville Jaquars.

yep, it was Chuck Billack. He was Woodson's first head football coach and then served as principal fro 1986-1991

Today's questions. Who was both a head football coach and a principal at Woodson?

You all are great...... it was April 1, 1973 at 3:15 PM a tornado took the roof of the school causing extensive damage, but fortunately since it was on a Sunday, there were no injuries. Student spent the rest of the school year at Oakton. The school set up 2 shifts to accommodate everyone. Round the clock work crews completed the repairs in time for school to open on time in September. There was a second tornado in 1979 that did damage to our athletic facilities. No damage to the school was done and classes were not interrupted.

Today's trivia question.. This will be easy for some, but it is the stuff of urban legends to younger generations.
