Congratulations to Sarah Hasson for her Thespian Scholarship in Technical Theatre!
Our last set of congratulations goes to this year’s Virginia Thespians Scholarship recipients! The tradition of giving scholarships to graduating seniors goes back all the way through history and we were happy to present 3 seniors from Woodson Drama, NKHS Trojan Theatre, and Madison High School Drama Department with scholarships to continue studying the art. We know you’ll make us proud, International Thespian Society alumni!
Dear Woodson Drama Family,
W.T. Woodson High School is thrilled to announce that Christopher Rushing has been selected as the new Theater Director. Mr. Rushing is an actor, director, playwright, theatre-maker, and educator with a decade of experience in arts education. He has had the privilege to work with some incredible theaters in Atlanta, Nashville, and Orlando, including the Atlanta Shakespeare Company, Georgia Shakespeare Festival, Arís Theatre, Nashville Shakespeare Festival, and the Orlando Repertory Theatre. As an actor and director, Mr. Rushing has worked on over half of Shakespeare’s canon (only 16 left!). He was a founding member of The Seedling Project, an experimental theater collective that was driven by Theatre for community, Theatre for research, and Theatre for growth. It was pretty groovy 😊. Previously, he served as an Arts Integration Specialist with United Cerebral Palsy of Central Florida where he won Teacher of the Year in 2018. Most recently, Mr. Rushing was the Director of Education and Outreach at Synetic Theater where his programs connected with over 25,000 students in the DMV area.
On a personal note during this bittersweet time before my retirement, I am familiar with Mr. Rushing’s work and I feel immensely confident that he will continue to provide excellence and empathy in theatre education to you/your students. Here is a link from Broadway World to a story about one of his recent works:
