Happy New Year from us at NeuroSound Music Therapy! 2022 was a big year for us- we moved to a larger clinical space, we added multiple new team members, we had therapists complete various trainings to continue their growth, and met lots of new families and clients along the way! Looking forward to what 2023 brings for all of us and all of you!

Happy Friday! Today I'm home with the kids because their daycare is closed. 🇺🇸 I had to run to get the baby's bottle, and he was upset that I stepped out of the room! Shortly after, I heard my toddler bang my guitar into the wall 🥴When I came back in, my toddler was playing the guitar to cheer up the little one. It made my momma music therapist heart so happy. I could listen to this song forever! 🥰How are you using music to cheer you up on this rainy day? ☔️

Have you worked with loop programs to create beats? They’re great for creating your own music! Novation has a free website that works without the actual device, which makes it so accessible to therapists AND clients! The device is pretty cool, too 😎

fun fact... On average, there could be as many as 384 people receiving music therapy at once! How cool is that?

It's that time of year! As we get back into the swing of things with the school year, consider including these songs in your sessions to incorporate these big transitions. These can simply be played for enjoyment, to work on individual goals, or to open the floor for some conversation and exploration about any feelings that revolve around school. 🚌 🤗 ✏️

Data collection, while tedious, is SO important to track client progress! Here at NSMT, we document every session and write progress reports every 3 months. This helps us confirm we are addressing client needs in the best way possible, share progress with parents/clients, and allow us a chance to assess if any goals or objectives need to be adapted to better assist our clients in reaching their goals.

As we enter back to school season, we understand there might be some schedule changes! Now's a great time to start thinking about session times for the upcoming school year! 😊

Happy ! One really important aspect of therapy, especially in the first few sessions, is the therapist-client relationship. Rapport is extremely important to assist your clients in reaching their goals. The fun part is, there's no one "right" way to build rapport. Each individual will build rapport with each therapist differently, so it's essential to try a variety of approaches! Here's a few of our favorites 🎶

Happy ! What should you do if you see music therapy being misrepresented? Here's a few steps you can take! It is crucial to the field of music therapy, as well as the health and safety of those involved in the situation, that no one is calling themselves a music therapist if they haven't gone through the proper training and certification to earn the MT-BC credential. You never want to attack someone for this misrepresentation, especially if it is unintentional or uninformed! Rather, approach the situation from a place of education. We want to further our field, not give it a bad name!

Raise your hand if you've ever been called the "musician," "music person," "guitar lady/man," or some other title like these 🙋♀️🙋♀️🙋♀️
Volunteer musicians are great, but did you know they serve an entirely different purpose than music therapists? While music therapists do play music... we are working to achieve specific results related to YOU and your specific, non-musical, needs and goals! 🎶🤩

🐸🪵🌊 Five Green and Speckled Frogs: On “one jumped into the POOL,” we PULL off the frog! They then jump into the POOL of water below 👇 a great break that works on timing & following directions!
🍎🍌🍽 Apples and Bananas (& more!) is great for linguistics, following directions, and a little bit of fun! Switch up the foods and sing the new song! 🎶
We love using visuals to add another element to our sessions!!
